This decision will be made on Friday, at the session of the Belgrade City Assembly. The Alley of Belgrade, that is, the Alley of deserving citizens of Belgrade, will be built in the Bežanija cemetery, where those who do not meet the condition to be buried in the Alley of deserving citizens in the New Cemetery will rest.
This will be an opportunity for the citizens of Belgrade to give back to all their fellow citizens who during their life left a significant mark on the capital with their professional career, scientific work, but also artistic work.
As we found out, the condition for this honor will be that the person is the winner of the Belgrade City Prize, and the decision on burial in Belgrade Alley will require the opinion of the mayor and the competent city secretariat in the area where the person worked and was created.
This measure should end the controversy over who and why deserves to rest in the Alley of deserving citizens. In recent days there has been a debate in public and on social media about that, and following the decision to bury folk singer Jay Ramadanovski in the Alley of Citizens Merits. A similar controversy took place when singer Saban Saulic passed away.
So far, more than 750 people from various social, political, cultural, sporting and artistic fields have been buried in the Alley of Merited Citizens in the New Cemetery: politicians, actors, generals, athletes, writers, scientists, painters, teachers university students, directors, sculptors, journalists. , doctors … The decision on who will rest in the Callejón del Nuevo Cementerio in the future must be made by the City Assembly, that is, the mayor, with the consent of the corresponding ministry.
