The Serbian Patriarchate announced that the heads of the Serbian Orthodox Church were showing symptoms and signs of worsening heart failure. Doctors reacted immediately, so his condition stabilized.

– The council of medical specialists, led by the commander of the military hospital kovid Karaburma, colonel assistant professor Dr. Ivo Udovicic, continuously monitors the state of health of the Serbian patriarch, it is stated in a short statement.

His Holiness’s health problems appeared after several days of preventive medical supervision at Kovid hospital. He was hospitalized on November 4, because a kovid control test showed the presence of infection in his body, although he did not present the usual symptoms of the disease.

The partial deterioration occurred at the end of last week, when he developed a fever, which is quickly remedied with therapy. In addition to kovid, His Holiness, as announced on Saturday, was subjected to conciliatory monitoring for other chronic diseases.

According to unofficial information from ecclesiastical circles, the patriarch’s state of health has stabilized and doctors constantly monitor his vital parameters. Irinej had a difficult night between Saturday and Sunday, caused by heart failure, but thanks to medical efforts and timely therapy further consequences were avoided. However, due to the unpredictability of the corona virus and the age of the patriarch, doctors refrained from predicting further treatment.

The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church was examined for the presence of the corona virus upon his return from Podgorica, where he led the funeral of Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Litoral. Besides His Holiness, the fight with the crown is also led by the Bishop of Budva-Niksic, Joanikije, and the Bishop of Mileševo, Atanasija (Rakita).

The Serbian Patriarchate receives messages of encouragement and hope that His Holiness will successfully fight the consequences of the crown. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was one of the first to speak. The head of state told Patriarch Irinej “that the Serbian people pray for their health and a successful recovery.”

– Your Holiness, our entire nation is with you. Serbia and the Serbian people have never needed you more. We pray to God for his health and successful recovery. Endure and defeat the terrible disease! – wrote President Vučić on the Instagram account “The future of Serbia”.

Orthodox believers from Serbia, Montenegro, the Republika Srpska and the diaspora pray in their churches for the health of Patriarch Irinej.

By the way, today marks 11 years since the death of your predecessor, Patriarch Pavle.

Reporters from “Novosti” visited his resting place at the Rakovica monastery, where they met dozens of believers who prayed to the late Patriarch Pavle for the health of Patriarch Irinej.

LITURGY IN HOUSES

THE ANNIVERSARY of the death of the Serbian patriarch Pavle was celebrated yesterday in his hometown, the Slavic village of Kućanci.

The Holy Liturgy in the renovated Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was served by Archimandrite Pavle, abbot of the Orahovica monastery, with the help of priests from Slavonski Brod and Nova Gradiška. At the end of the service, a cake and wheat were consecrated in memory of the late Patriarch Pavle.
Preparatory work is under way for the construction of the future complex on Patriarch Pavle’s birth estate in Kućanci, which will include, among other things, a replica of his birth house, a pension and a museum.

The believers we spoke to say that the Serbian people and the Church have never needed a wise and experienced ecclesiastical leader.

– I have been praying for him every day since he went to the hospital for treatment – Milanka tells us. – At a certain moment we read the psalter, because prayer is miraculous. She can do a lot!

There was a queue at the Rakovica monastery to light candles. For the dead and the health of the living. For Paul and Irenaeus. He patiently lined up to pray next to the white marble and the cross, under which rests the most beloved Serbian cleric and a man who was considered a saint during his life.

– Irinej is grieving. He certainly wanted to be in Rakovica today on the anniversary of Pavle’s death. The great cross is carried by our patriarch, the believer tells us, on the verge of tears, as he waits to pray at the tomb of Patriarch Pavle.

As he says, believers can also help Patriarch Irinej overcome this anxiety. Spiritually. I think so.

– People, and especially older generations, should kneel, repent, and pray. We old men have the responsibility, because we live in communism, in the age of impiety. Only believers can survive – says our interlocutor.
