Approximately one million vehicles in Serbia with Euro 3 engines will not be able to pass the technical inspection and register when the tolerance for the illegal amount of exhaust gases is stopped on July 5.
The stricter regulation on technical inspection of vehicles came into force in 2018, but then the technical inspection lines and the owners of vehicles in dispute had the opportunity to adjust to one of the most stringent measures in mid-2021: the control of the exhaust emissions.
It has not yet been clarified how older cars with gasoline engines that have gas installed will be treated.
Experts say that when the exhaust gas measurement conditions are stricter, most Euro 3 engines will fail, but also some engines of a higher standard, depending on their condition.
The technical inspection problem will probably be solved by returning the catalytic converter or cleaning the engine, but that expensive option is usually more expensive than vehicles, so it will most likely not be profitable for most citizens.
There are also fears that a number of technical inspection lines will cease to function as of July. Many technical inspection lines do not have the problem of acquiring new equipment as much as technical inspection dimensions. Spatially, they cannot meet all the criteria and that is why they will be closed.
The average age of passenger cars is over 18 and trucks and buses are old. The average age of tractors is over 30 years old, and they will be limited by exhaust emissions starting in 2021.
