Approximately 60,000 Olympic FECAL POOLS flow into the Sava and the Danube each year, our rivers are like sewer pipes.

We have known since last winter that the air is not the brightest for us, when we could feel it and see it. This summer, those who live far from them could also smell the unpleasant smell coming from the rivers. Later, the authorities said it was a sewer that empties directly into the Sava and the Danube. It was felt this summer, now you can see it.

The image of the surroundings of the Sava embankment is more than eloquent, but the citizens who live nearby also have something to say. They warn that there is garbage between the rafts, write “RTS”.

Citizens also say that this problem has been bothering them for years. Faecal waste is dumped directly into rivers. The worst is during the summer, and sometimes they can’t even open the windows because of the unpleasant smell.

Then there is no talk of walking along the river, and it also happens that the fecal water mixes with the garbage, which is also thrown into the rivers, so the sight and smell are even more unpleasant.

Users of social networks describe this scent as acid that stings the eyes.

Citizens are concerned about water quality

Konstantin Ilijević from the Faculty of Chemistry says that the biggest problem in Belgrade is the contamination of communal water, which goes directly, without treatment, to the Sava and the Danube.

Sometimes, the citizens themselves clean the banks of the garbage. In a statement from the EP “Srbijavode”, they responded that the problem is that economic resources are not provided for the removal of this waste, while “Zelenilo Beograd” is not in charge of cleaning the garbage on the coast, but only on the seafront .

Due to fecal content, many fellow citizens are concerned about the quality of the water we drink. However, the EP “Water Supply and Sewerage” told us that the water is the right one, just depending on the amount and type of waste, sometimes it takes less, sometimes more time to filter.

There are still no sewage treatment plants

The problem is that there are still no factories for wastewater treatment, as well as the fact that a third of Belgrade does not have a regulated sewerage system, and that is the only solution.

– That solution has been planned for decades: build a collector, a factory for the treatment of wastewater. This is a solution that has been applied in all other cities and that gives satisfactory results – said Ilijević.

Belgrade is located at the confluence of two great rivers, and it is probably the only European capital that destroys them with its negligence. Around 60,000 Olympic fecal pools are dumped into them each year.

Until this problem is solved, the Danube and Sava will not be a symbol of the natural beauties of Belgrade, but the main sewer pipes.
