Dusan Rajic, a personal trainer and professor at the Faculty of Medicine, emphasized that diabetes is a dangerous disease in itself, but that when combined with the coronavirus, it often results in a fatal outcome.

– I have been fighting diabetes for 16 years. Diabetes is an insidious disease, a different practice from what doctors learn from books. The Internet is also scarce with information.. Today, we wouldn’t have as many coronavirus problems if people were metabolic! They’re not a problem for years, but metabolic health, Rajic says.

The program emphasized that all the other deceased coronaviruses in the world were diabetic, and Rajic explained how it happened.

As we age, our metabolic health worsens. And other diseases that affect our immune system are added to that. Eat healthy and you will not have any problem! Imagine this, 11 million people die a year from an unhealthy diet, it is more than alcohol, smoking and inactivity together. More than 50 percent of our diet is ultra-processed foods, fast foods that have an extreme impact on our health, he says.

– Only 12 percent of the United States population is metabolically healthy. And when we look at older people, over 65, the statistics are devastating. In this case, only 2 percent of them are metabolically healthy. In Serbia, the situation is a little better, but not too much, Rajic points out, adding that people who have a problem with metabolism generally have a problem with pounds, so fat is usually deposited in the abdomen.

When asked to explain what metabolic health really is, he responds:

– Various parameters are being considered. Is the blood sugar level high, does the person have high triglycerides, and what is the body’s good cholesterol level?

Rajic claims that only 5% of Serbs are physically active.

– Why are we surprised that we are sick? The gym is the best cure for the disease, and even for the coronavirus, but to be clear, I don’t support people who exercise beyond social distance, says a guest of the After Lunch program.
