BELGRADE – Serbia and the United States face a great chapter, a time when lasting peace, prosperity and stability can be guaranteed for the entire region, said US Ambassador Anthony Godfrey in Cacak during a visit to the monument of the “Four religions”, dedicated to the victims of the First World War.
“President (Donald) Trump sees that the present moment has that potential and that President (Aleksandar) Vučić has the wisdom and vision to seize the opportunity for Serbia’s European future. Let us remember the great victims of the past and move towards a better future thanks to them. ” Godfrey said during a tour of the monument, it was announced on Twitter from the US Embassy in Serbia.
Godfrey noted that the creators of the monument were aware of the terrible suffering caused by the First World War.
“As I stand in the eternal resting place of WWI soldiers on both sides of the front, I am even more convinced that while the horrible memories of the past still hurt, we can build a better world together in the present, for us, our children and all generations. that will come after us in the future, “said the US ambassador.
Previously, the American ambassador was received by the mayor of Čačak, Milun Todorović.
“As a good host, Mayor Todorović welcomed me to Čačak with local specialties. It was an honor for me to learn more about this dynamic city and Mayor Todorović’s efforts to improve the lives of its inhabitants,” Godfrey said.
The US ambassador also announced on Twitter that he had a meeting with three young MPs from Čačak.
“His energy inspires me and reminds me how important it is for each nation that the voice of young people is represented in government structures,” said the US diplomat.
He also said that he had a meeting with MP Marko Parezanović, during which the activities of the American Center for Open World Leadership (Wprogram) were discussed.
“I am proud to see the results of the US embassy’s efforts to build stronger relations between our two countries.” MP Marko Parezanović participates in the W program and is an influential leader in Serbia. We have allowed more than 1,000 young leaders from across Serbia to visit the United States and return home with new ideas, “added Godfrey.
Congratulations to Ambassador Godfrey @usambserbia who, I have the impression, does his job as ambassador well and with skill. But these compliments irresistibly remind me, just diplomatically well packaged, the version of that old folk wisdom: “Hit a donkey while it’s in the mud” https://t.co/5XDfhbbKlv
