This morning a different George O. woke up much earlier than usual. Although he goes to group “B”, and those are the ones who start classes at 10.30 am, the excitement of going to school made him wake up before seven.
If you ask him if he likes school, the answer is no, but from dawn he asks every hour when it starts. Brushing her teeth, eating breakfast, and then unusually she begins to ask what they are going to do today, if the teacher will ask them something. The time of departure is approaching, and the books and notebooks in the backpack have been stacked for a long time, the pencils have been sharpened.
We are walking down the street to school, and those in group “A” who meet early and had their first class at 7:30 are coming to meet us. What did you do? Who was everything? Is there something for homework? Word, two with friends and little time, soon the bell will ring. Along the way, we meet friends from school and a large group of children and parents approach the school where teachers are waiting for them at the entrance. Parents cannot enter school, most, not all, wear masks in the schoolyard. The children, also wearing masks, call for the teacher and enter their classrooms with a bang. The crown has done its thing, the caution is visible in the children, there are no hugs or running around the yard.
For last year’s champions, this summer break was the first and certainly the longest they will have in their studies. Although they formally disbanded in June, the vacation lasted a good six months after they replaced the faces and voices of their teachers with those on television.
– We will have to learn to sit quietly on the benches again, says teacher Vesna from one of Belgrade’s suburban schools.
The first class only talks about viruses, hygiene and behavior. Of the other two hours, a little Serbian and math, which can be achieved in half an hour. Not even two hours later, the others finish on the first day of school. Among parents waiting in the yard, the main issue is what will happen in October, if they will switch to online classes again, as they say, and how they will deal with work and children. Then the bell rang and the children ran to the school gate.
– How was the school. the same question comes to all students from parents. Someone can’t wait to say it, but George just says “good” and “was short-lived” so it was really good.
After lunch, there is a temptation that all parents with school-age children, who work from home, spent this spring – doing their homework, only now it is even more difficult to persuade after three months of vacation.
