The Bishop of Budva-Niksic, Joanikije, with the clergy and the people, tonight served a memorial service at the Cetinje Monastery near the scaffold of the Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Litoral.

The rector of the Cetinje seminary, Father Gojko Perović, spoke at the end of the scaffold and said that “the metropolitan, like the prophet Moses, hoped to lead his people out of slavery.”

“The blooming desert and the stony sea parted for the umpteenth time here in Montenegro, and the Metropolitan waited to bring this town out of the darkness of seventy-five years where we ourselves turned our temples and churches into barns and warehouses. We witnessed miracles as a verse in “Scripture. God raises a great prophet among us and God visits his people. And that refers to the metropolitan Amfilohije, “Perović said.

He said the bishop said in previous years that he had been successful in everything, but not in reconciling Montenegrins, the Metropolitan’s website reported.

“Who knows when we will receive it, but if we follow the path of Metropolitan Amfilohije, that is the path of love and peace,” Father Gojko said.

The vigil at the Cetinje Monastery, together with the clergy of the Metropolitanate, was also attended by the president for the composition of the new Government of Montenegro, Zdravko Krivokapić.

Krivokapic said that “the sacrifice made by Metropolitan Amfilohije was the greatest promise for the reconciliation of Montenegro.”

“The sacrifice you made is the ultimate promise for the reconciliation of Montenegro. And that is the feat you lived for. The people you gave everything you had to bow down to that sacrifice,” wrote Krivokapic on his Twitter account .

The metropolitan of Montenegro and the Litoral, Amfilohije, died this morning in the Podgorica clinical center due to the consequences of the coronavirus.
