Ivan Kontić (30), suspected of brutally beating Miljan M. (28), has been on the run for a month and there is no sign or voice from him.
The controversies over this case, which raised a great storm in public opinion, could never have an epilogue, and the supervisory commission of the Novi Sad prosecutors showed that neither the Superior Prosecutor’s Office nor the Basic Prosecutor’s Office were wrong in this case, reports Blic.
It has not yet been announced why Ivan Kontić was not arrested on at least September 8, when he arrived at the prosecutor’s office in Novi Sad due to another case and freely walked outside. After a series of mutual accusations of (no) work and (no) timely action by the Ministry of the Interior and the Novi Sad Police on the one hand and the Basic and Superior Prosecutor’s Office of Novi Sad on the other, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic issued an order to the Appeal Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad to carry out the commission’s supervision over the work of the Superior and Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad.
“Based on the order of the Public Ministry of the Republic, a commission to supervise the work of the Superior and Basic Public Ministry was held in Novi Sad, on September 18, 2020, in relation to the events of August 24, 2020 , in relation to which there are grounds to suspect the victim MM committed the crime of attempted homicide provided for in article 113, in conjunction with article 30. During his commission, all the files of these prosecutors’ offices with the statements of the interim deputies in relation to the part of the work they performed in relation to this fact.After a thorough analysis of the documents in the files, a three-member commission composed of the Novi Sad Deputy Prosecutor of Appeal concluded that the Basic Prosecutor’s Offices and Superior operated legally and in a timely manner, say in the Novi Sad Appeal Prosecutor’s Office.
Let us remind you, half an hour after midnight on August 24, in front of the bar on Jevrejska Street in Novi Sad, Kontić attacked Miljan. M. brutally beat him while the young man lay unconscious on the ground. At one point, as can be seen from security camera footage that appeared two weeks later, Kontić attempted to break both of the young man’s arms.
The video shows Kontić grabbing the victim by the neck, but also another young man pulling the beaten by the shirt and hitting him on the back with his knee and then on the head with his fist. The beaten Miljan M. reported the brutal attack to the police a few hours later when he went to the hospital due to numerous injuries.
After a series of statements from the police and the prosecution where they pointed the finger that this attacker is not yet behind bars, it was clear that there was a failure in mutual communication, as the public learned that Ivan Kontić, two weeks after the brutal beating of Miljan M., accompanied by a lawyer, he entered the facilities of the Basic Public Ministry in order to resolve the criminal complaint that was presented to him in 2018 for attempting against security. When what he had was finished, Kontić left the OJT facility a free man.
Meanwhile, in secret, the head of the Novi Sad Police Department, Milorad Šušnjić, was replaced. It is not known why and if this has something to do with this case.
When the story about this case became public, Šušnjić spoke up and said that the Novi Sad Police Department “informed the Novi Sad Prosecutor General’s Office about the case on the same day.” On the other hand, the Basic Public Ministry stated then that this “was not true” and that the Prosecutor’s Office was “informed about this case for the first time on September 4, 2020.” Just two weeks after the incident, a video of the brutal attack appeared on social media and in the media for the first time. That same day a case was formulated for the first time in the Basic Public Ministry “on a criminal report previously presented by the attorney for the aggrieved MM to the Superior Public Ministry.” “.
A day later, the criminal act of causing serious bodily injury was reclassified to the crime of attempted murder, and the case passed to the Superior Prosecutor’s Office, which ordered the initiation of an investigation against Kontić. On the same day, the Interior Ministry announced the search for Ivan Kontić. It had already disappeared without a trace.
In addition to Kontić, who is a fugitive, the procedure is also being carried out against OL and LV on the suspicion that they participated in the fight, that is, they helped the suspect after committing the crime.
