The associations once again appealed to the corresponding ministry to urgently solve the problem of blocking the work of travel agencies.

The blocking of agencies, as they say, increases the chances that they go bankrupt en masse and thus leave passengers without travel alternatives.

“We also call on insurance companies to announce whether they will pay damages to passengers who do not receive replacement trips, because most agencies cannot continue to operate under current conditions,” the statement read.

Bankruptcy policies, which are a legal condition to organize trips, as they say, most agencies are not even offered.

Also, the prices are unrealistically high, because the agencies will certainly not achieve significant billing anytime soon, according to UTAS and ANTAS, adding that the agencies are doing their best to survive and thus allow replacement trips.

“Most agencies had to lay off a good part of the workers or will do so soon, but any cost cut is insufficient if the legal continuation of work and the sale of tourist arrangements are not enabled,” say UTAS and ANTAS.

The associations, they added, warned of all the problems and dangers in a timely manner, and the corresponding ministry, they say, approved a regulation and a solution that is not applicable in practice: bank guarantees as a condition to continue legal business, affirm the associations.

All Serbian travel agency associations and leaders have asked the new Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Mati for help in finding an acceptable solution for the continuity of the travel agency business.

“Current insurance company legislation and procedures favor large agencies, rather than allowing a free three-match match on equal terms for all participants,” the statement said.

The association and association say they cannot allow that, because that would shut down smaller agencies, mostly families, which have been a mainstay of safe and reliable travel in local communities for decades and which would contribute equally to Serbia’s budget.
