This trial was closed to the public due to the protection of the interests of the girl, the victim of Jovanovic, and the spokeswoman for the court, Irena Gusic, told Tanjug that a representative of the commission of the Mental Health Clinic, which conducted a Psychiatric examination of the minor victim, was questioned at trial.
“The evidentiary proceedings are ongoing, the next main trial is scheduled for December 28,” Gusic added.
Jovanovic, a multiple returnee who has spent more than 20 years in prison, is in custody.
He is accused of abducting and abusing a girl from the town of Suvi do for ten days at the end of last year, after which she was found, and seven days later he was arrested.
The Nis Superior Prosecutor’s Office filed an accusation against Jovanovic in March this year, but due to the protection of the minor’s interests, it did not want to announce the legal classification of the criminal act for which he is accused.
The investigation against Jovanović was carried out due to the criminal acts of kidnapping and rape of a child.
Jovanovic was arrested on January 5 at a cemetery in his hometown of Malca, after police searched for him for 17 days.
It is suspected that on December 20, in the village of Suvi, he intercepted a girl on the way to school and abducted her.
She was found on December 29 in the town of Jasenovik in a weekend house, after 10 days of a major police search.
She was cut, with bruises on her body and placed in the Clinical Center in Nis for her recovery.
Jovanovic was twice previously convicted of rape to 10 and 12 1/2 years in prison, which he served.
