Ivan Kontić (30), who is wanted by the police on suspicion of hitting and inflicting serious injuries on 28-year-old MM on August 24 in Novi Sad, has a law degree and was a member of the Montenegrin national team in judo, according to found out “Blic”.
It is not yet known where he is hiding or if he fled to his native Montenegro. What is known is that, according to the law of Serbia, where he has never been convicted, he faces up to five years in prison for inflicting serious bodily injury. That sentence could be less, a maximum of three years in prison, if Kontic admits to hitting MM.
At the moment, there are doubts as to whether Kontić will be in the dock. That is, if he really fled to Montenegro, where he was born, this state, if he still has his citizenship, is not obliged to extradite him to the Serbian judiciary. You can request that the Novi Sad court hand over the case to you and be tried in Montenegro, and even serve your sentence afterwards.
In that case, Kontić, who also has Serbian citizenship, could return to Novi Sad or Belgrade, where he studied, after serving his sentence, because he could not be prohibited from entering the territory of Serbia (we cannot prohibit him from entering our citizens ).
No doubt, Kontić is familiar with all these legal rules, because as “Blic” finds out, he graduated in law from “Union” University in Belgrade and, for the last year, he worked as an intern at a law firm in Novi Sad. He was also registered with the Vojvodina Bar Association as an intern.
For several months at the same time, he worked as a security guard at the casino in front of which he beat MM when, according to “Blic”, he had known him for a long time and they even got along well. The reason why he brutally attacked an acquaintance and inflicted serious injuries will be determined in the investigation, because so far neither the suspect’s acquaintances nor the lawyer of the beaten MM want to talk about it.

What is known so far is that Kontić struck the young man on August 24 on the sidewalk of Jevrejska Street in Novi Sad. The perpetrator was betrayed by a video from security cameras, which began circulating on social media on the night of Friday, September 11, and a longer version appeared a day later.
The images show young men fighting in front of a casino and an exchange office on Jevrejska Street in Novi Sad. It can be seen that the two fought in front of the bar, while the individuals gave sporadic blows to the young man who was later beaten. Also there were security workers who, except for a moment, did not try to stop the fight. Then, as later determined, Ivan Kontić knocked the young man to the ground and hit him on the head with his fists while the young man lay motionless as he had lost consciousness in the meantime. Eventually, she breaks both of his arms and leaves him lying on the ground seriously injured.
According to the information from “Blic”, the beaten MM immediately requested medical help, so the doctors informed the police about his injuries. However, the victim MM did not immediately give a statement to the police, said who beat him, but after leaving the hospital in Novi Sad, he traveled to Belgrade. The status quo was in the investigation for several days, it was not known where he was or who hit MM, allowing suspect Kontić to move freely around Novi Sad.
It was only on September 2 that the beaten MM submitted a report and declared who had inflicted serious bodily injuries on him, and a day later, a video of the brutal beating reached investigators. The recording confirms the accusations of the victim, but the suspect Kontić is inaccessible to the prosecution and the search begins. Despite the mobilization of all police forces, and even the publication in the media of a photo of the suspect in the hope that some citizens will recognize him and inform the MUP where he is hiding, Kontić has not yet been detained.
The suspect has already been arrested
Ivan Kontić is the director of the founding company of a Belgrade betting house, according to official data from the Trade Registers Agency. He was appointed director of the company founded in 1998, with activity under code 9200 – gambling and betting.
Kontić was arrested in January 2018 for possession of a revolver and cocaine in Nikšić. Agents from the Anti-Drug Department and the Niksic Security Center found an illegal revolver near Kontić in 2018, and a powdered substance presumed to be cocaine from his partner Matija Božović.

A series of arrests in Novi Sad
Yesterday, the Novi Sad police arrested two people on suspicion of helping Ivan Kontić, suspected of brutally beating a young man on Jevrejska Street in Novi Sad.
According to the media, one of the detainees tried to escape during detention, but was prevented from doing so by the police.
