They will be made of firmer and more durable paper, visually the same as the ones we use today, but the difference will be felt to the touch.

Representatives of the Bundesbank announced that from 2021, 20 euro banknotes of the second series (Europa series) will be covered with a protective layer after printing, which should allow a longer useful life of these banknotes. The same coating is already used for the 5 and 10 euro notes. series “, they affirm for Blic of the National Bank of Serbia.

This protection applies to denominations of the euro of lower value because these banknotes have a greater turnover, that is, they change holders more frequently in relation to denominations of greater value, so they wear out and deteriorate faster, so they have shorter shelf life.

Then, the objective of coating the mentioned denominations of the euro banknotes is to extend their useful life and, consequently, reduce their printing costs, points out the central bank, noting that there is no visual difference between the euro banknotes that are protected from the way described and those not. .

“It is possible to feel a difference that is insignificant to the touch,” they added on NBS.

The National Bank of Serbia states that there are no plans to withdraw any denomination (or series) of euro banknotes from circulation, so there are no replacements or deadlines.

“These banknotes will certainly also appear in Serbia, and when it will be, we cannot say precisely, because it depends on circumstances that cannot be influenced,” they say in the NBS.

As before, euro banknotes of the first and second series (Europa series) are in circulation at the same time in the following denominations: first series: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500; second series: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200.

“We also note that the 500 euro denomination remains in circulation, like all other denominations of the first series of euro banknotes. They are not withdrawn from circulation and can be used for all legal payments, as well as savings on banks, “concludes the NBS.

Eighth series of “Swiss” withdrawals

The Swiss National Bank announced on its official website that it would withdraw the eighth series of franc banknotes from circulation in the first half of 2021. They were put into circulation in the period from 1995 to 1998, and the exact date of withdrawal of these Tickets will be announced two months before.

The reason for the recall is the improvement of banknote security features, which was carried out in the ninth series, which protects them more effectively against counterfeiting.

On that occasion, the National Bank of Serbia also announced that it recommended citizens to deposit the eighth series of Swiss franc banknotes in banks for savings in foreign currency, sell them for dinars, convert them to another currency or exchange them by opting for banknotes of the ninth series of the franc issued in 2016. in 2019.

The NBS advises that this be done as soon as possible, because banks and authorized exchange offices will stop buying the “Swiss” of the eighth series even before they actually become non-optical.

As announced from the central bank, authorized exchange houses and commercial banks act this way because they also need time to sell the banknotes that are no longer circulating to foreign banks.

The replacement of these banknotes, once they are no longer legal tender, will be possible without time limit at the counters of the Swiss National Bank in Bern and Zurich or by sending them by post to said bank.
