Yesterday, in Podgorica, in the crypt of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, the Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Litoral was buried.

Biljana Srbljanović also wrote about Amfilohije himself, but also about the reactions to his death, in her last column. His column, published by “Blic”, is broadcast in its entirety:

The superstitious belief that “only the most beautiful of the deceased” is a sign of hypocrisy and a mad desire to please the majority, it is the greatest weight that our intellectual public faces. There are no words of criticism, but even cold and objective information on the life and work of Radović, which may overshadow the myopic obsession with the recent political activities of the most powerful dignitary of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Everyone is silent, they hide behind a false moral, a petty bourgeois rule that a dead man with his death erases all his bad past, all the sins against society and the environment in which he has acted in a harmful way for decades.

Does Metropolitan Amfilohije deserve the status of saint?

With his last political commitment, Radović became a kind of symbol of the struggle against the long-term government, not only in Montenegro, but also in Serbia, a kind of spiritual leader of the opposition, arbiter of the highest political events . And everyone is silent, because he is dead.

Risto Radovic was not a good man. Both as a priest and as a natural person, he led a life stumbling under his ambition to rule: the church, the state, the people, and the nations. That ambition was based on a profound disagreement with the new era, with the right of all people to life, freedom of thought and belief, with the right to one’s own identity, be it gender, sexual, national or even religious.

Guided by the idea of ”investigating poturica”, obsessed with the path of the “New Summer”, Montenegro and Serbia without Bosnians, without the Montenegrins themselves, Radović never hid his contempt for other peoples and religions, and more than that. He called Muslims “false people, with false faith,” justifying the Srebrenica genocide. He will be remembered as the clergyman who brought Arkan and his paramilitaries to the Cetinje monastery on St. Peter’s Day, no less, no more, to bless them before the campaign in Croatia.

It will also be noted how Radovan Karadzic was publicly offered as a fugitive, how he declared his mother a saint, just because she gave birth to the one who “cleansed” the Serbian lands of the Muslims, as a man who mourned publicly only for Milosevic, and that on the scaffold of Zoran Djindjic, in front of his mother, wife and children, he practically cursed the assassinated prime minister. At that time the rule “all the best of the deceased” did not apply, on the contrary, in front of the coffin of the assassinated, In front of his closest friends, in front of the whole country in mourning, he justified his murderers not metaphorically, but directly, saying that the Prime Minister ended up being his political ancestors. the one who lay, heir to the policy of the enemy of Amfilohije’s Serbs, who reached out to the West, instead of mutilating her.

Risto Radović died of the crown, due to complications caused by his later years and a profound misunderstanding of the hygiene of life for decades. For months we all, as hostages to this pandemic, have counted the dead, that families cannot even see in the last moments of the struggle for life, much less bury their bodies. Risto Radović was exempt from that terrible death. He could and had everything, all the attention and presence of his people, until the last breath. Now his possibly still contagious body was not only not hygienically buried, but was offered to kiss him, to watch over him, under that glass blanket, embalmed and prepared for idolatry.

People, kissing this window of the corpse, one after another, by the hundreds, put the life of a common man back below the life of a church nobleman, theologian of ethnic intolerance, protector of murderers and bloodthirsty, preacher of hatred and death for all who are different. When he celebrated a liturgy for the repose of the Serbian Parliament and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, as well as when he sent curses to Belgrade for the “stench of sodomy” that our government does not avoid by force, when, with the help of the army , erected a tin church in Rumija. Holy place, when he shouted that the crown does not exist and that it is not to be feared, he did not work for the benefit of his people.

Now, when he lies in a heated chest, it is as if he laughs at us from the grave: glad that even the dead manage to emanate hatred, intimidate the weak and produce cowardice, silence and defeat of almost all our intelligence that he is afraid to say publicly what a man he is. Risto Radović really was.
