Dr. Adelaine Fagan (28) contracted the corona virus in early July and died on September 19 after staying in hospital for more than two months. He worked in the emergency service in Houston and his sister claims that she wore the same protective mask for weeks due to lack of equipment.
According to the “Guardian” report, more than 250 medical workers died after the outbreak of the hotspot in the southern and western United States. In Texas, out of nine deaths among physicians in April, the number of health care workers who died rose to 33 in July.
Among the deceased healthcare workers, a dozen of them in the United States were under 30 years old. The average age of medical personnel at the time of death by kovida-19 is 57, compared to 78 for the entire population of the country. About a third of the deaths occurred due to inadequate protection. Lack of protective equipment is fatal for healthcare workers, because they are three times more likely to become infected compared to the general population.
It is not known exactly how Feyganova got infected with the corona virus, but her younger sister Maureen (23) believes it is related to work in the emergency service. “HCA West” is part of the nation’s largest hospital chain, and in recent months the national nurses union complained of “willful violation” of workplace safety protocols, including pressure on staff. infected to continue shifts at the hospital, reports “Indeks.”
“She wore the same protective mask for weeks.”
Maureen said her sister wore the same protective mask for weeks.
– Adelaine had an N95 mask with her name on it. He used it for weeks, if not months, he said.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that the same N95 mask be worn a maximum of five times, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer. HCA West Hospital declined to officially comment on Morina’s allegations, but shift manager Dr. Emily Sedgwick stated that the hospital is complying with all recommendations.
“Our protocol, based on CDC guidelines, includes the delivery of the N95 mask at the end of each shift, and physicians receive a second mask at the beginning of the next shift,” Sedgwick said.
She was on a respirator
Fagan came home on July 8 with body aches, headaches and fever. Tests showed that he was positive for kovid-19. She suffered from asthma and soon had difficulty breathing after the infection. One afternoon, Maureen noticed that her sister’s lips were flooded and insisted that they go to the hospital.
For two weeks, Feygan received oxygen in the hospital. He became so weak that he couldn’t hold the phone, not even his head held high. She was transferred to another hospital, where she was placed on a respirator.
A day later, she was hooked up to the ECMO device, which draws blood from the body intravenously, enriches it with oxygen, and then returns it to the body.
Her parents were allowed to visit her on September 15.
– I don’t think we’re prepared for what we saw when we entered your room. Adelaine tried from time to time to answer our questions, shake her head. She spoke the word – two. But her gaze was glassy and you weren’t sure if she was really present.
On September 17, her condition improved and Feyganova was able to sit without support, and a day later she was removed from the ECMO device, but on September 19 she had a brain hemorrhage, resulting in her death. She was buried on Saturday.
