Three large fires in the last 48 hours have affected Serbia and, except for Novi Sad, thick black smoke rose in Zemun and Bežanijska kosa. According to experts, the most common cause of an explosion in residential and commercial buildings is a defective, overfilled or mishandled gas cylinder. A little carelessness leads to catastrophic consequences, which has been proven countless times.
So far, many experts have claimed that if a gas bottle is not handled properly and breaks, the gas bottle is actually a highly destructive bomb, in proportion to its size.
“A gas bottle can blow up an entire apartment with walls and ceilings, and the surrounding apartments are often damaged. In such situations, an explosion inevitably takes human lives, but if tenants manage to escape, they are very likely to be burned. serious, “says Marija Đurić. Radulović, an expert in fire protection.
Đurić points out that it never happens that the bottle burst, and that it was correct and that it was handled correctly. Think that it is better to buy new bottles with certificate.
“When you buy gas, you buy everything with a bottle. Give away an empty old one, take a full one. Gas does not tolerate improvisation. Bottles and all other gas appliances must be purchased exclusively in the stores that deal with it and maintained in authorized services They must be handled as prescribed by the manufacturer It is recommended to replace the hose that goes from the bottle to the device once a year, and each time you change the bottle you should pay attention to the seal of the pressure regulator. It is worn, it must be replaced immediately. Cases where the gas starts to leak because the valve is faulty or the hose is cracked or porous, “says Đurić Radulović.
What if he starts to whistle?
When you hear a hiss or smell of gas, experts agree that the bottle should be immediately closed, taken outside to a safe place and looking for a proven master.
“You should never try to solve the problem yourself. My old neighbor in Kosovo suffered so much because he tried to fix a gas bottle that was leaking somewhere. It was horrible what happened to him, the explosion blew him up and destroyed the apartment.” says Stana Milicevic from Belgrade.
In search of cheaper solutions, some people refill gas cylinders in car service stations, and they do it through the link, as it is officially prohibited, and in these cases the bottles are refilled. Đurić Radulović draws particular attention to this problem:
“Bottle overfilling is terribly dangerous because there is a leakage of the liquid phase through the hose into the consumer premises and the moment the device is turned on, a detonation inevitably occurs.”
Every fire, despite the material damage, however much it is, is nothing compared to human suffering, and the region still recounts the tragedy of Posusje, where eight young people between 18 and 19 years old died and were suffocated by gas in a hut while celebrating the new year.
