The agenda item on the situation in the Faculty of Orthodox Theology was removed from today’s session of the Senate of the University of Belgrade, at the request of that faculty, because Dean Zoran Ranković was unable to attend the session with justification.
Ranković is infected with the corona virus, the rector of the University of Belgrade, Ivanka Popović, informed members of the Senate.
The rector said that the University leadership is not running away from this issue and that it will be on the agenda for the next session in December, and that the PBF must ensure that its representatives attend that session of the Senate.
Popović noted that the discussion about the dismissal received by PBF professor Rodoljub Kubat requires that a representative of that faculty be present.
The dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Miomir Despotović, considered that this item on the agenda should not be postponed, because the issue is related to the university, and not to the PBF, whose dean said what he had and signed the appropriate decisions. The rector responded to Despotović, saying that the item mentioned on the agenda refers to events at PBF.
– This topic is neither easy nor simple, it is of utmost importance for the future of the University and the way we want to function as an academic community. I think we are obliged to nurture the academic spirit of the conversation, regardless of whether others are willing to do so – said the rector.
In today’s session of the Senate, the mandate of the acting dean of the Faculty of Philology, Jelena Kostić Tomović, was verified and the Statute of that faculty was approved.
The rector informed members of the Senate that of the 6,750 residents of Belgrade’s student dormitories, the corona virus was confirmed in 55 students. According to the most recent information from the Student Polyclinic, 210 students from all higher education institutions in Belgrade have been infected.
