Three members of the Serbian army died from the coronavirus: two civilians and one non-commissioned officer, 52 members were infected and 167 of them are isolated, said Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin.

In the presentation of the results of the Army and the Ministry during the fight against the coronavirus, he said that there were a total of about 300 members infected and that currently nobody is in a difficult situation, or fatal, or with a respirator.

During the fight against the pandemic, Vulin noted, a “relentless and completely unfounded media campaign” was carried out against temporary hospitals formed by the Army.

He added that the campaign was carried out intentionally and systematically, “false news was released with the desire to harm the government.”

Vulin stated that 1,500 members of the Army participated directly on a daily basis in the measures to combat the coronavirus, in addition to the accompanying services: logistics and health, and the Army also carried out its operational tasks. The army, he added, provided 18 border crossings, 51 health centers in 24 cities and municipalities and 153 social protection institutions in 50 cities and municipalities.

Vulin also stated that the army placed 5,122 beds in nine temporary hospitals and that it fully fulfilled its task, which was expected of her.

During the state of emergency, the army hired 2,200 vehicles for that purpose, carrying 43,000 people and 29,000 tons of cargo.

Vulin also noted that the army provided 20 reception and asylum centers for migrants, who were in quarantine, and that firearms had to be used three times, that they were shot in the air and that no one was injured.

I am proud of all the members of the army. The percentage of sick leave after the declaration of the state of emergency was lower than in the same period last year. I am also proud of those who stayed in the Ground Safety Zone during their shift. No one rejected the order and protested, Vulin said.

He also emphasized that more than 80 percent of the soldiers in the volunteer service of the March generation expressed their desire to become professional members of the Serbian army.
