Politika Online – Police officers are beaten, cursed and bitten

[ad_1]

Attacks on the Serbian police have become frequent and brutal. In the last two weeks alone, there have been multiple instances of rioters hitting, cursing, attacking and even biting law enforcement officers.

The latest in a series of these attacks took place on October 31 in Valjevo. Then they arrested me. METER. (29), D. В. (24), M. METRO. (24) and B. … (24) suspected of dressing in uniform near the “Paleta” cafe in Kolubara city, beating and biting police officers several times.

According to our information, the police noticed an incorrectly parked jeep near this cafe in Tešnjar while on patrol. They stopped to check who owned the vehicle, and then saw that the building was packed with several guests at the table. While trying to enter the cafe, the policemen were stopped by a young man at the door with threats and oaths. After that, several guys came out and attacked three security guards from Valjevo.

A few days before this, an incident occurred in Aleksandrovac when MS (59) from the village of Puhovac hit the policeman twice in the stomach and then grabbed his neck with his hand. The policeman was dressed in civilian clothes, he identified himself the moment he reacted to the disturbance of public order. It all started when three drunks in a change house in the center of the city threw this policeman at him before he approached them. At that time, M. S, who is a returnee in criminal acts, assaulted him. The policeman received medical assistance.

METER. P. (31) and V. Н. (22) attacked a police officer in Cukarica of Belgrade during an intervention. METER. P. hit the security guard on the head several times with his hand, while V. Н. holding hands. The officer had bruises on his head.

The most brutal attack in recent times took place on October 21 in Novi Sad. Then DS seriously wounded the inspector of the criminal police with a screwdriver. According to the Interior Ministry, DS is suspected of assaulting an inspector who was not on duty during the search, but tried to prevent him from stealing a car in the Salajka settlement. Criminal charges were brought against him for attempted murder.

The Serbian Interior Ministry did not respond to “Politika’s” question about how many attacks on police officers were recorded this year. According to statistical data, in Serbia, on average, about a thousand crimes are committed against police officers, and only one in three attackers is sentenced to prison and one in six for obstructing a duty officer. The other two-thirds of the attackers will be released or with a suspended sentence.

“We hope that in the next period, when the final confrontation with the mafia in the state is expected, there will be changes in some laws and statutes about preventing, obstructing and attacking a police officer.” “When the state reacts decisively, the attackers will see whether it is worth attacking the state,” emphasizes Lazar Ranitović, president of the Serbian Police Union (SAA).

Our interlocutor believes that the criminal provisions in this area are not bad. However, as he claims, in practice it happens that after such incidents, the attacker to the police officer leaves the detention center and leaves the police station premises before the security guard writes in the report what happened and how.

“The police officer is expected to have at least five conversations with internal control and with officers in the next five days.” After that, private lawsuits are filed against police officers for abuse and torture, “says Ranitović.

He adds that recordings that are cut out of context and placed to see only the reaction of the police officer, but not previous behavior towards the police officer, often appear on social media.

The president of the SAA affirms that, if the state wants the final fight against the mafia, it must also protect the people who will fight against organized crime.

“We in the union believe that a ‘dirty’ policeman cannot be a policeman. Whoever has broken the law must be held accountable. Such a police officer should be punished drastically, but the aggressor should be treated in the same way, “concludes Lazar Ranitović.

Year of stress due to crown

It is important to mention that 2020 is a specific year because a curfew was introduced a long time ago due to the corona virus, and let us remember that in July there were protests by disgruntled citizens. During the first two days of the demonstration, we witnessed incredible scenes of violence between the hooligans and the police not only in Belgrade, but also in Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac. In that “fight”, there were many injuries from both sides.

Of 118 police officers injured in the violence that was taking place at that time, Nebojsa Apostolovic suffered the most, as both legs were broken during the protest in front of the Serbian Parliament.

Lazar Ranitović says for “Politika” that the phrase that an attack on the police is an attack on the state has become unnecessary.
