NIS – Unknown persons stole a tombstone from the grave of Bojan Dimitrijevic of Nis in the Brzi Brod settlement.
Bojan’s sister noticed the unusual theft yesterday and immediately informed his wife Sanja about it. The police have been alerted, searching intensely for the thieves, who must have been more, considering the weight of a piece of marble one meter wide and two meters long.
Bojan’s wife, Sanja, says that immediately after learning that her late husband’s grave was desecrated, she rushed to Brzi Brod, where she was greeted by a sad sight.
It is a double tomb, with two red marble slabs, a monument I erected to my husband, who died in a car accident twelve years ago, and to himself during his lifetime. The thieves took a plaque that was not cemented, considering it to be my grave. I immediately informed the police, they came very quickly, we inspected the entire cemetery and found that everything was in place except my husband’s grave, the indignant wife told the Telegraph.
He says he believes the unprecedented robbery occurred in the past three or four days. Family members last came a week ago, the plate was in place. The locals who came to the cemetery with their work also say that until a few days ago everything was fine. The problem is that the cemetery is outside the town, it is not illuminated, there are no surveillance cameras and it was easy for the thieves to come and carry the huge slab – says Sanja. It is incomprehensible to him that someone dared to steal the tombstone, but he thinks one of the reasons is that it is red marble, so it probably caught their attention. What makes this event even sadder is that Bojan suffered neither guilty nor guilty as a victim of a drunk driver.
