The organization of work that Panić mentions refers, among other things, to the months-long practice that patients requiring operations prior to admission to hospital receive serological tests that are not reliable enough.
In the situation in which the epidemic breaks out, the chances that people infected with the corona virus are among those who undergo surgery, which serological tests do not detect at the beginning of the infection, are extremely high.
This further opens up a wide range of problems, including health worker illness.
– What is a problem for us is that we had a large number of infected recently operated patients, who spread the infection in the wards, so now there are many sick and health workers. However, this is not talked about at all, says Panić.
On the other hand, Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar warned yesterday that the situation in Serbian hospitals is getting worse and that the state cannot “invent” medical workers, trained doctors and nurses to help people.
For this reason, he called on citizens to be serious, that is, avoid mass concentrations, illegal concerts, celebrations.
Rade Panić also points out that there are things that the State itself must guarantee in this situation, and that is a greater coverage of tests and isolation of the sick and suspects.
– A few days ago, Branislav Tiodorović said that the actual number of infected people is up to ten times higher than the official figures show. I would say that there may be a lot more people who are really sick. We see that people are not yet sufficiently proven, that contacts are not monitored, that the implementation of self-isolation is not controlled, adds Panić.
Speaking about the state of the health system, Zlatibor Loncar said yesterday that “with this dynamic, if we continue to receive 400 patients a day in the hospital, we will take this system to the point that we will no longer have a place to receive patients.”
As he explained yesterday, during the last 24 hours, just under 400 covid-positive patients had to be hospitalized, of which 150 in Belgrade, where there are another 300 vacancies, which is enough for one or two days.
Loncar said that hospitals in the interior have places for now, but that it should not be surprising if patients from Belgrade, who need intensive care, are transferred to the interior.
According to the latest data, yesterday there were 2,014 covid patients in hospitals. The highest number of people infected with the corona in hospitals was during July, when it surpassed 4,500 in one period.
Yesterday, 2,412 new cases of coronavirus were registered in Serbia and six people died. A total of 53,495 people have contracted the virus in our country so far and 850 deaths have been registered.
Still not alarming in Kraljevo
Zlatibor Loncar said yesterday that the situation is alarming in Kraljevo, “where the hospital is about to move to the entire system.” Panic, who works as an anesthesiologist at Kraljevo hospital, however, points out that the whole hospital will not switch to the kovid system, but only part of it. “We have a full infection room, so part of the in-house hospital will move to Kovid,” says Panic, adding that the situation is currently difficult in Kragujevac, where capacities are full, so Novi Pazar’s patients, that otherwise must be cared for in this city, they point to Nis.
250 doctors were also infected
The Health Minister said yesterday that 250 health workers were infected with the corona virus. Of that number, fewer than 30 health workers are hospitalized, Loncar added. “It is much better than in other countries, but we are not satisfied even when one of our healthcare workers is infected,” Loncar said.
