The proposal that the president of the provincial government, Igor Mirović, become an honorary citizen of Sremski Karlovci, did not find support in the Municipal Commission for the awarding of recognitions. It was proposed by an SPS man and rejected by his fellow Serbian Progressive Party party, who are at the head of the commission and head of the municipality. Mirovic sees the whole story as an abuse of his name, and the SNS affirms that the background is not conflicts within the party.
The title of honorary citizen of Sremski Karlovci was held by Josip Broz, academic Dejan Medaković, Vida Ognjenović, bishop of Srem and even Slobodan Milošević until October 5, 2000. This year, the proposal was that the current president of the Provincial Government take over the honorary title.
I proposed Igor Mirović as a poet, not as a politician, explains SPS councilor Žarko Dimić.
“I know him as a poet. Since I’m in a certain way since the founding of the socialists, he is a man who was on the other side, a radical, and now the SNS, he was a great poet with the first and second books. So, when something was needed for the people of Karlovac, he came and helped, “he added.
Mirovic, however, was unlucky. The proposal of Žarko Dimić, who is the group head of the SPS committee in the Karlovac Assembly, did not find the support of a commission composed mainly of members of the Serbian Progressive Party, notes Dragan Trišić of the Serbian Radical Party.
The chairman of the commission, otherwise the head of the progressives’ commission, Djordje Radivojevic, rejected the proposal, at the secretary’s suggestion, as disorderly because it was allegedly not presented by an authorized proponent. They could have adopted the proposal if they wanted and could have declared it. of this circus, which has now performed and would not be a fairground in Sremski Karlovci, “says Trišić.
Although the only representative of the opposition in the Commission for the delivery of awards, Trisic believes that in the municipality that barely found funds for national cuisine, Mirovic should have been awarded the title.
“Instead of being on good terms with him, seeking how to get money from all sides to avoid the bankruptcy of the municipality, they argued with the president of the Diputación,” says the representative of the radicals.
The leaders of the municipality did not make themselves known, and the president of the Diputación himself sees the abuse of his name in history, because he did not give his consent to be nominated for the award. He adds that he will continue to work for the benefit of Sremski Karlovci.
“I consider the behavior of the councilors of all the political parties of Sremski Karlovci, and especially of the municipal leadership, frivolous and irresponsible, who did not obtain my consent for this proposal and who, willingly or not, abused my name,” said Mirovic.
How to interpret the movement of the progressives of Karlovac and the response of Mirović? It could also be that it is simply a clan struggle within the larger party, says political scientist Dusko Radosavljevic.
“Because it is simply possible that people do not like Mirović. We must know that his foundation in the party and his legitimacy do not come directly from the president. He came to that party even before the president of the Republic,” recalls Radosavljević.
Although he was present on the 12th birthday of the party, instead of Mirović, his fellow citizen, the Mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević, spoke about the Karlovac case. He also sees in all the abuse of the name of his party partner, but points out that there are no conflicts.
“Obviously, there were a series of clumsy, invisible movements, I hope not malicious, that is, with some bad intentions,” says Vučević.
For the proponent, on the other hand, things are clear: he mentioned Mirović’s name due to his contribution to Sremski Karlovci, as he had previously suggested to other people who received the title. This time, the decision of the SNS members was not to approve it.
