Leading British epidemiologist Neil Ferguson, who is credited with introducing restrictive measures to combat the coronavirus, resigned as a government adviser after the media revealed he had violated social distancing rules.

Professor Ferguson said he “made a mistake in judging” and regretted “any relativization of clear messages about the continuing need for social distancing.”

Previously, the British Telegraph reported that Ferguson allowed his lover, who lives with her husband and children, to come to him during the ban.

Ferguson is leading a team at Imperial College London, based on the findings of which Prime Minister Boris Johnson decided to introduce a move to ban measures in Britain.

Coronavirus infection in Britain, which initially opted for a more relaxed approach to the pandemic, has been confirmed in nearly 200,000 people, of whom more than 29,000 have died. Only the United States has more deaths than coronaviruses.
