Nova.rs journalist Ana Lalic assures that the “Katarina Preradovic” award for professional integrity means more to her than all the previous ones, because it bears the name of a colleague with whom she had the pleasure of sharing writing, and was awarded by a jury of colleagues who know their work. . The award, as he says, is a huge part, but also an obligation to justify it.
“The award has a very nice name that implies journalistic integrity. Katarina is the best example of what journalistic integrity means, to have continuity in her work. That integrity does not change regardless of the circumstances. Her family was also present and expressed satisfaction that the award went to me and Vuk (Cvijić), and that is the greatest compliment ”, says Ana Lalic for N1.
As he points out, the working conditions of journalists in Serbia are more difficult today than when they started their careers, and integrity is no longer a measure of what is considered a popular journalist.
“It is difficult to be consistent with yourself, the work is more difficult than ever,” warns Lalic, but also says that journalists who do not have integrity may have made a mistake in their profession.
He says pressure is an integral part of journalism, but also notes that colleagues have shown great solidarity “in these terribly difficult times,” which he sees as a foundation that can help journalists remain persistent and professional despite from pressure, false information, and are often targeted because they insist on the truth.
“There are a lot of people who respect what we do, who provide support, and that is a great motive, obligation and duty. I would not dare to betray the trust of the people, “said the journalist of the Nova.rs portal.
