Orthodox Christians will celebrate St. Michael’s Remembrance Day tomorrow and, according to beliefs and traditions, will visit graves, light candles and pay tribute to their dead in temples.
Funerals are always on Saturdays, when services dedicated to the deceased are also organized, because Christ spent the day before the Resurrection, which is always celebrated on Sunday, in the tomb.
In addition to Miholjski or autumn, in the calendar of the Serbian Orthodox Church, there is also Duhovske or summer, spring, in the week before the beginning of Lent, and Mitrovica or winter. The church also mentions the words of Saint John Chrysostom, one of the greatest theologians:
“Help the dead and mention them. Do not hesitate, therefore, to help those who have left and offer your prayers for them!”
It is necessary to bring to the church for the liturgy on Saturday:
- cooked grain
- black wine
- one candle per grain
- a candle for each deceased or a larger one for all
- a list of the names of your deceased friends and family.
At the Eucharist, the Holy Liturgy and the memorial service are served in the churches, in which the priest pours the wine on the wheat and, after the service, the graves of the deceased are visited.
If you are busy that day, you live far from the cemetery and cannot go out to the cemetery, you can always go to church, where a memorial service was held.
Prayer for retirees:
“Remember, O Lord, our parents and brothers who slept with the hope of the resurrection to eternal life, and all rested in godliness and faith, and forgive them all their sins, voluntarily or involuntarily, that they have sinned in word , work or thought. places of light, places of freshness, places of rest, from where all torment, pain and sigh flee, where the sight of your face rejoices from the time of your holiness. Because you are the life and the resurrection , and the rest of your sleeping servants, Christ our God, and we glorify you with your eternal Father and with your most holy, meek and life-giving spirit, now and forever and ever. Amen. “
