Bor authorities have brought criminal charges against Zidjin

The Bor municipal administration has filed a criminal complaint against those responsible in the Chinese company Zidjin for several days of excessive contamination with sulfur dioxide and other substances harmful to the health of the population.

As confirmed for the Municipal Public Ministry’s website istmedia.rs, the report was signed by Bor Mayor Aleksandar Milikić and refers to those responsible for the Bor copper smelter, which operates as part of Zidjin. ž

Measurement stations of the Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) have been recording excessive sulfur dioxide (SO2) pollution in Bor city park for three days, and the pollution has been repeated almost every day for almost two years since Serbia sold RTB Bor to strategic partner Zidjin and became a minority co-owner. 37 percent of the capital.

The legally permitted values ​​of SO2 are 350 micrograms per cubic meter, and on Monday average values ​​of up to 1,969 micrograms were measured several times during the day, that is, it was specified that the air is “highly polluted” and that it is not recommended at the population leave their apartments.

According to public data, the air in the same place is “heavily polluted” with PM10 particles.

Gauging stations in Bor record average pollution hourly, but current pollution peaks are estimated to be much higher.

On Monday around 1 p.m., in the city center and near the Bor Technical Faculty, a sharp gas caused passersby to have shortness of breath and watery eyes.

Automatic measuring stations in August measured excessive pollution in the city park for 18 days, with the highest peak recorded on August 4, when more than 3,800 micrograms per cubic meter were present in the air above the SO2 of the city ​​park, which is 11 times more than allowed.

The Environmental Inspectors of the Republic and the Ministry of Ecology do not announce “environmental crimes against the population” on this issue, as evaluated by both the government and the opposition. ž

Zidjin representatives announced during the June election campaign, in the presence of Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic, that they would prevent the release of harmful gases into the air from June, while the release of harmful substances in Bor continued after the elections.

The pollution report was presented on the eve of the environmental protest announced by the organizations for Saturday, September 19, inviting fellow citizens to attend that meeting through social networks and after the city government is ready to face the polluter.

It was announced on social media that Bor’s catering companies will not be working on the day of the protest from 10 am to 12 noon due to excessive pollution.
