The case of Ivan Kontić’s animal abuse of an unconscious man horrified everyone who saw the video in which this horrible violence was recorded.

Like a torrent, the video of the beating of the guy in front of the Novi Sad gambling shop began to spread with electronic transmissions. The national media reported the news of the brutal attack on Jevrejska Street, Novi Sad, and also asked their readers to inform the editorial staff and the police if they had any information about this incident.

The entire video would not be at all strange, nor different in its brutality from the cowardly attacks on a person lying unconscious, if Ivan Kontić (30) had not crossed the line of humanity, thus adding something even more terrible to the whole The agression. He began to break the neck of the unconscious child (28) with his knee, and before that, he nonchalantly broke both arms, pressing them against his knee as if he had not a man’s hand in his hand, but a common branch.

To make things even more cruel, and unfortunately that is also possible, they observed the whole case and then tried, unsuccessfully and shyly, to arrest those present.

Shyly, because after a warning pointed finger, Ivan Kontić, not to interfere in the conflict, the big man left the scene of the accident and left the man unconscious at the mercy of the torturer.

According to some media, the young man is most likely disabled after such a monstrous treatment.

On people’s impulse to attack and destroy other people’s lives without empathy, he gave the answer for our readers. Jovan Marić, a well known psychiatrist and forensic expert.

He hinted that security is a risky job, primarily because of who does the work. That is, if that person is aggressive in private and uses the security position as a screen to express their anger and desire to hurt other people.

– People who work to secure clubs are a special kind of people. It is such a profession that not everyone can do it, and potential workers should undergo a psychological evaluation, that is, if they are fit to do that job. While doing such an evaluation for the police officers – said the psychiatrist.

Maric believes that a big problem also lies in the fact that people who present themselves as security officers do not undergo any or seldom tests.

– A person who is too aggressive or wears a uniform to be able to hurt people is not suitable to deal with security. These people don’t control themselves well enough. That’s why someone who has such an extremely aggressive pathological personality structure slides into those ranges, like that guy who couldn’t stop himself even when the man he hit was unconscious on the ground, says Marić.

Increase in personality disorders

What is worrying is the rise in personality disorders in Serbia, says the psychiatrist, which followed as a product of the war-torn Balkans in the 1990s.

– It is of great importance that each of us build an internal policeman, who will be a brake on hasty reactions. It is our superego, a feeling of remorse or guilt. They are psychological characteristics that an honest, moral and correct person must have, and that are also important for people who deal with jobs such as security – points out the psychiatrist.

Jovan Marić also says that such brutal behavior, which took place on Jevrejska Street in Novi Sad, may be preceded by various experiences the individual went through.

– First of all, such behavior depends on what kind of childhood that man had. Did you observe violence as a child? Was he himself a victim of violence? Often times, a person who has suffered violence becomes violent. Throughout his life, he begins to exercise and strengthen his body to punish innocent people for their frustrations in childhood, says the psychiatrist.

People around such a person know best if someone is prone to aggression. If an individual reacts inappropriately and excessively violent to stimuli, then they have a problem with anger management, which can be fatal.

– There is a lot of aggression in each one of us. We all have our “little criminal”, but we also have our own brakeman next to him, who does not allow us to let that criminal out. People who don’t have a built-in braking mechanism are prone to such rushed behaviors. It is necessary that we as a society begin to nurture love, tolerance, friendship, respect for the needs of others – says the interlocutor.

“In 2050, the main cause of death will be violence”

What worries me most is the potential fate that awaits humanity.

– Fututologists say that by 2050, the leading cause of death will be violent death. Violence will be greater and greater, medicine will treat cancer problems, heart problems and several other diseases, but it will not be able to cure the need for violence of the human being, explains the psychiatrist.

With the decline of authority, there is a decline of morality in a society.

– There is a decline in the authority of parents, teachers, principals and that undermines morality. The ultimate value of morality is “respecting the needs of others.” In no case did the attacker think about the basic need of the person attacked. To end violence we must dedicate ourselves to educating a person from the earliest childhood – affirms the interlocutor.

How to get in the way of violence

Whether a person who attacked once does so again depends on the punishment.

– Several people who experience the cruelty of punishment will not repeat the crime. A person who fears a punishment called imprisonment will be conscious of not repeating such an act. The difficulty of imprisonment must be overcome, because it is the prevention of recidivism, that is, the repetition of a criminal act – concludes the interlocutor.
