Bugatti Veyron broke the 400 km / h VIDEO barrier 15 years ago

In 2005, Veryon became the first production car to break this speed record.

That April day, fifteen years ago, the Uwe Novacki test train sat in Veyron 16.4 and printed a new page in Bugatti’s history but also motorsports.

The standard Bugatti Veyron unit used an 8.0-liter W16 with four turbochargers, 1,001 horsepower and 1,250 Nm. It was also the first production model to have an engine of more than 1,000 “horsepower”.

Power was transmitted to all 4 wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Veyron 16.4 ran in 100 seconds in 2.5 seconds, while in 200 km / h it took 7.3 seconds and in 300 seconds 16.7 seconds.

The first objective was to break the 400 km / h barrier for “civilian” production cars, and the second to overcome the legendary Porsche 917 race, which clocked at 406 km / h.

Uwe Novacki was able to achieve both goals as he was driving 411 km / h at one point! However, the speed of 407 km / h was officially recorded, as the results of odors in one and then in the opposite direction were taken into account during the measurement.

The Bugatti Veyron has set new records in the following years.

In June 2010 Veyron 16.4 Super Sport With 1,200 CV it reached 431 km / h, and in April 2013 it reached Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse at 408.84 km / h it became the fastest production roadster in the world.
