Strahinja learned to ride a bike and rejoiced, but it was FATAL

Strahinja Jugović (7), when hit by a train in the Mala Bosna settlement in Sremska Mitrovica on Sunday, passed away yesterday at the Tirsova Children’s Clinic. As we found out, Strahinja recently received a larger bike from his grandfather and quickly learned to ride it without auxiliary wheels, and he died because the train likely hit a part of his bike at the level crossing.

He was with his mother

Desperate neighbors and relatives of the Mala Bosna settlement say there are various versions of how little Strahinja was killed in, by the way, one of the best-secured level crossings in Serbia. What is known for sure is that at the time of the accident, the boy was riding a bicycle, and with him were his mother and brother, who is one and a half years old.

– A train passed, the boy rode his bicycle next to his mother, but soon another train arrived from the other side, which hooked the bicycle and threw it a few meters away – said one of the neighbors with whom we spoke yesterday. He added that he soon saw his mother, who was completely crazy.

Railroad crossing pass under the ramp

The level crossing where the accident occurred has a ramp, but also a part for pedestrians and cyclists. – Pedestrians and cyclists can pass when the train passes or before it arrives, which usually happens – one of the locals tells us. He adds that this ramp, due to another railroad that is industrial and does not have its own ramp, will go down for half an hour: – The neighbors know it and very often they cross it even though the ramp is down.

– She was so shocked she didn’t say anything. An eight-year-old girl and a younger son were with her. She was pushing a wheelchair, mad with pain – says the neighbor. Others say that the mother also rode a bicycle and that she rode her youngest son in a basket. – The ramp was lowered, but the part for pedestrians and cyclists does not have a ramp. The boy was resuscitated at the scene of the accident and, from what I heard, his heart stopped working five times. They managed to recover it and transported it urgently to Belgrade – said the neighbor. The locals also say that the boy was too close to the train track and that the air pressure from the train pushed him away because he was small. However, what exactly happened and how this horrible tragedy happened will be determined by the ongoing investigation.

First grade finished

The neighbors only have words of praise for the boy and his parents.

– It was our little angel. Too smart and hyperactive. He was supposed to go to second grade. He recently bragged that his grandfather had bought him a bigger bicycle because he had been riding on three wheels until then. And how smart he was is also shown by the fact that he quickly learned to drive it himself, says a crying neighbor.

As he explained to us, the children’s mother works as an educator and the father is a coach.

– I saw her and I don’t know what to say to her. Yesterday I heard you say that the little one was in a difficult condition … We all expected him to come out. Strahinja’s parents are now in Belgrade – says the woman crying.

The locals build an underpass

A neighbor from the Mala Bosna settlement says they did the role for pedestrians and cyclists at the level crossing two months ago. – I am a professional driver, I have traveled half the world and I have never seen a crossing like this anywhere. This is not a solution, it is necessary to make an underpass. There were many tragedies at this junction – he says.
