Usijanja’s guest epidemiologist and Crisis Staff member Dr. Predrag Kon talks about the new measures and explains how effective they have been so far, and also reveals whether the profession is satisfied with the vaccination process.
– The measures are still in force, and from Monday there will be corrections, for catering companies it will not be as before four square meters in the open air per person, but differently, we are still considering how it will be – says Kon and adds that it is far from yield in measure.
Dr. Kon emphasizes that a sustainable model is still being sought.
– For Easter, I hope that Serbian citizens of the Orthodox faith understand that this is not the time for visits and mutual contacts to which we are used. We will not prohibit movement during the holidays – says Kon.
The epidemiologist expects the situation to improve in the next four weeks until May Day and the Easter holidays. He emphasized that according to epidemiological indicators, the peak of the crown in Belgrade is passing.
– We expect a decrease in the number of new infected, but we have a problem with a large influx of patients to hospitals – said Kon adding that the mortality caused by the new strain of the virus has not increased compared to the previous period and is almost like anywhere else in the world.
The minimum condition to make the measures more flexible, according to Kon, is to equalize the number of admissions and discharges in kovid hospitals.
– Where there is a higher vaccination, the spread of the virus slows down first, and then there is an accelerated decrease in the number of new infected – says Kon and adds that the virus will be reduced to a minimum in the next month-month and a half.
Kon emphasized that the vaccination process in Belgrade is going very well, that about 32 percent of citizens over 18 years of age received the vaccine and that the results can already be seen. The situation is also improving in Novi Pazar.
Any discussion about vaccination is in favor of anti-vaccines
Kon also paid special attention to anti-vaccines.
– We can’t change your beliefs. My only goal is to make it clear that vaccination has been scientifically proven to have saved the most lives in its history so far. Every debate benefits them. I don’t have time for antivaxers. I dealt with them for 10 years and delved into the subject. This is nothing new, they have existed for two centuries, only their influence has become greater due to social networks – said Kon.
A member of the crisis staff added that any discussion in the media about vaccination generates mistrust in the common world.
– We already see that vaccines work in our country. We have several vaccines, and that makes it a bit difficult to monitor the effectiveness – Kon said and emphasized that each citizen should consult with their chosen doctor about which vaccine to receive.
According to him, medical personnel have an obligation to be vaccinated.
– The problem of doctors who do not want to be vaccinated will be the first on the agenda in the ethical-legal consideration – says Kon and adds that the introduction of covid passports will also be considered.
According to him, vaccine production in Serbia is of strategic importance.
