The Synod’s reaction is just one of a series of reactions that are in the Serbian public this day after this bill was presented for public discussion. Stefan Šparavalo from the Association “Da se zna” and lawyer and Dusan Ilić, signatory of appeal 212 against the law on same-sex communities, spoke about the motives of FOR and PRTOVI in Pusla dana.
– Proponents predicted that not only registered same-sex communities would be registered, but also unregistered ones. The former are a counterpart to marriage, the matrimonial union, and the latter as a counterpart to the unregistered matrimonial union. The latter would have the right to inherit, and the interesting thing is that extramarital partners in Serbia do not have that right. In addition, same-sex community couples are expected to have the right and opportunity to support themselves. Just to remind you that neither married spouses nor extramarital partners have that possibility. With these proposals, the position of people in same-sex unions would be better than the position of people in marital unions, says Dušan Ilić, associate at the Institute for European Studies.
The question is whether the bill on same-sex marriage could improve the law on different-sex communities.
– I am in an unenviable position because I am defending a draft that is necessary, but not good enough. What I do not agree with my colleague in the study is that this law is necessary. And these reasons stated by Dušan are not good enough to withdraw such a draft of the procedure – says Stefan Šparavalo from the association “Da se zna”.
