Analysis of the Pek River water from the Požarevac Public Health Institute showed that certain heavy metal values increased several times, mainly copper, manganese, iron and sulfate.
The Pozarevac Public Health Institute, as one of the two reference laboratories, released a report on Peka water samples on Tuesday.
The results showed that some heavy metal values increased several times, mainly copper (reference value 500 – measured 960), manganese (reference 300 – measured 3,300), iron (reference 1,000 – measured 12,600) and sulfate (200 – measured 369), reports the eKuchevo portal.
For this reason, the commander of the Emergency Situations Headquarters of the Kucevo municipality, Ivan Rajicic, scheduled an emergency session of this body, in which several orders, conclusions and recommendations were approved.
First, it was agreed that the public would be informed immediately of the results of the analysis. Then ask the Požarevac Public Health Institute for further clarification on the harmfulness of the determined pollution for people, flora and fauna.
In addition, an analysis of the land in the river basin, as well as the fish in it, was ordered.
Until clarifications arrive, the recommendation to all citizens is not to fish, not to use Peka’s water to irrigate orchards or to give cattle to drink, not to remove gravel from the riverbed and riverbanks.
An information center (012 / 852-103) has been set up and all residents with wells in the river basin (50 to 100 meters) can contact the local government to help them analyze the water in them.
The headquarters also made the decision to form a professional-operational team that will deal with all matters related to this problem on a day-to-day basis.
From now on, JKP “Kucevo” will have to analyze the drinking water from the “Mlaka” spring every 10 days. In addition, a request will be sent to “Srbijavod” to prevent the extraction of gravel from Peka in the area of the “Mlaka” water source. The Peka watercourse is under the jurisdiction of the EP “Srbijavode” and the competent state ministries, and the local self-government has no authority over it.
The headquarters also concluded that the Ministry of Environmental Protection is requesting an urgent admission to be able to do something to solve this problem.
The Pek River has been cloudy in recent weeks, which has bothered the inhabitants of the municipalities of its basin, mainly Kucevo.
