He believes that Vučić is trying to build a de facto greater Serbia, which Milošević and Dobrica Ćosić wanted. It’s a Serbian program, modernized for the Balkans today, says Professor Daniel Server for Voice of America.

According to RTCG, the election results in Niksic are partly viewed by Server as a reflection of what happened at the state level, but also as a fatigue of the DPS as the ruling party.

“People have the right to want certain changes, and there were enough reasons for that: accusations of corruption and the like. I only wish the change was in a more positive, pro-European and pro-Western direction, but that possibility did not exist in Montenegro. A change of government is an integral part of democracy. There was also no strong pro-sovereignty and pro-European opposition in Montenegro, only pro-Serb. “And people were obviously tired of the authorities under DPS and President Djukanovic,” Server said.

He points out that the problem is the failure to develop a strong pro-European opposition that supports the independence of Montenegro.

“However, I wouldn’t panic about that. What worries me most is the role of Serbia and Russia, and especially President Vučić’s ambition to take some degree of control over the Serbs in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Vučić it is trying to build a de facto greater Serbia, which Milošević and Dobrica Ćosić wanted. It is a Serbian program, modernized for the Balkans of today, “says Server.

He adds that a defeat in Niksic would cause some doubts in Podgorica, but with such a victory, as he claims, he will be encouraged to go in the direction he prefers, and that is the anti-NATO, pro-Russian and pro Serbian leadership.

“There’s no question about that. And people in Europe should start to recognize that.” I think it’s generally recognized in America, but not in Europe.

The server concluded that the influence of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) is still visible.
