Belgrade will not vote in favor of the closure decision

Belgrade will not vote for the decision on full closure, Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić declared today.

– If the decision were made to completely close or shorten the working day, it would be wrong, because it will not contribute to the normalization of life, and I will say that at the Crisis Staff meeting. Belgrade will not vote for that decision, which is practically impossible to implement – said Vesić as a guest on Vesti channel, and announced the City Administration.

Vesić added that if that decision is made, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow we will have crowded walks and picnic areas, because people will hang out and that kind of contact cannot be avoided.

– Instead of contacts taking place in organized places, where there is control, everything will happen where there is no control. That will be the consequence of such a bad decision, Vesić warned.

He also stated that, if it happens that, like last weekend, everything is open until 2 in the afternoon, there will be a real “stampede” in shops, gyms, restaurants.

– We will have the same number of people in the same places, but in a shorter period of time. It’s probably normal for everything to happen over a longer period of time, because in that case people are deployed – said Vesić.

He recalled that it will soon be a year since the beginning of the pandemic in Serbia and that life cannot be expected to stop.

– We can’t play with people and everyone should do their job. Belgrade, as local self-government, will do its job, let the state fulfill its obligations and the doctors theirs, Vesić noted.

He noted that it is important to appeal to personal responsibility, because everyone must learn to protect themselves.

– Whoever wants to isolate himself, isolate himself, but we must not isolate those who do not want that. That is our position and for Belgrade it is not a compromise. The only commitment would be to continue working as before. Everything else is wrong decisions – said Vesić.

He warned that the current situation should not resemble a market, so when you ask for a state of emergency and you realize that the majority of the citizenry does not agree with that, then you give up and accept commitments and some other measures. .

– To live and earn a living, people must receive a salary. These are people with first and last names, with families, and I do not allow anyone to reduce them to a statistical figure, that is, there are only 40,000 people and ask how much they contribute to GDP. There are 40,000 families, there are their children, their spouses who will not receive a salary, that is, 100,000 lives – said Vesić.

He adds that there are those who are dedicated to tourism, musicians and others.

– I will never allow the people of Belgrade to pay the price for the chaos that was experienced in Kopaonik. Who allowed parties in Kopaonik until five in the morning? Well, everyone in the health centers knows that half of those infected came from the mountains. That is why I will not allow a family in Resnik who has a cafe with five tables to pay the price because someone behaved arrogantly and spent a lot of money for one night in Kopaonik – said Vesić.

He affirmed that the essence is that people are vaccinated, revaccinated and the measures are respected.

Those who violate the measures, organize parties, must be punished, Vesić is explicit and adds that they must be held criminally responsible, because they intentionally spread a contagious disease.

– It is important to wait 10 to 15 days, to reach a sufficient number of revaccinates, in addition to those who have passed the COVID, and achieve herd immunity – said Vesić.

He pointed out that he would not comment on the attitudes of doctors because they are competent to talk about the health situation, because it is their job to point out what the consequences are if the economy does not work.

As he says, the health system was not there before the shooting, even when there were 8,000 infected and covid-free hospitals built in Batajnica and Krusevac, but that everyone should do their job: citizens should be held accountable and the state did its share of the work. . .

He stated that there is enough medical equipment in Serbia, that no one was left without treatment, that President Vučić provided a sufficient quantity of vaccines, and that half a million new doses of the Chinese vaccine will arrive today.

– Compare California, where everything worked, and Florida, which was closed, as well as the countries that had a complete closure, so the number of infected people is growing again – Vesić noted.

He affirmed that doctors, communal militiamen and all citizens are exhausted because the pandemic lasts a year, adding that it is necessary to endure and find a measure between health care and the work of the economy.
