The number of new corona cases in Serbia has been growing for two weeks, epidemiologists warn that the main blow can be expected this week, and the growing number of infected children is of particular concern.
The director of the KBC Children’s Clinic “Dra. Dragisa Misovic”, Dr. Olivera Ostojic, says there is a slight increase in the number of sick children requiring hospitalization.
– It is not such a terrible situation, we currently have nine children in the room, but that number varies constantly. For example, about ten days ago, we only had three inpatients, then that number suddenly jumped to 15 over the weekend before the holidays, explains Dr. Ostojić.
However, as he says, you notice a greater number of exams in the outpatient clinics.
– These are mainly older primary and secondary students, which is expected since they returned from vacation. On the other hand, we do not know if they were infected at school or in the family, because most of their parents are also infected, and we know that many of them took advantage of the holidays to go to the winter. Fortunately, these children have mild symptoms and do not require hospitalization, but the number of examinations has really increased, says Dr. Ostojić.
Besides Belgrade, there is a notable increase in the number of sick children in Arilje, Vranje, as well as in Kragujevac.
Let us remind you that older elementary and middle school students in almost all educational institutions have classes according to the “half in school, half online” system. It is quite certain that in the next crisis staff session, if the massive illness of the students continues, the situation in the schools will also be discussed.
