The medical part of the Crisis Staff remains firmly convinced that there is no room for relaxation, which was confirmed in yesterday’s session with the decision that the current measures remain in force during the next vacation. Furthermore, winter sports fans should expect tighter control on the ski slopes, and Zvezda fans will almost certainly not attend the game against Milan.
As Epidemiologist and Crisis Staff member Dr. Predrag Kon clearly pointed out yesterday after the session: “Everything about the measures remains as it has been so far, not even talk of concessions!”
Furthermore, no one from headquarters, neither yesterday nor in recent days, indicated when a concession could occur.
By the way, Dr. Kon has pointed out before that it is unrealistic to talk about mitigation measures before the Meeting.
He warned yesterday that unfortunately we have a slight increase in numbers due to the return of the ski resort and the appearance of the British strain.
– The evaluation of the epidemiological situation shows that there is a stabilization at a high level, but unfortunately there is a slight increase that may be associated with the return from the ski resort, but also with the presence of the British strain, which has been verified in several times – explained Dr. Conn.
According to him, the Crisis Staff recognized the upcoming holidays (Statehood Day, February 15 and 16) as an additional risk, especially in a situation in which we still do not have vaccination with two doses of vaccine.
– It should be remembered that protection with the vaccine is provided only when two doses of the vaccine are administered and when at least ten days have passed since then – he noted.
Strengthen control in the mountains, ski resorts and catering facilities.
The epidemiologist Kon appealed that we should try not to worsen this condition, and that is only possible by respecting the measures.
In this sense, he emphasized that respect for the measures refers mainly to the increase in control that can be expected in the following period, and especially in the holiday period in the mountains, ski resorts.
– Controls will also be increased in places recognized as places of infection, such as catering facilities. The fact is that we have to endure a little longer until we acquire the barrier that we need to acquire with the vaccine, which continues to be the focus of preventive activities – Dr. Kon stressed.
Full accommodation for the holidays
As expected or not, the public is very interested in staying in the mountain centers, and the arrangements to spend the winter in our mountains were exhausted at the end of November last year.
For this reason, it was feared that the ski resorts could become the epicenters of the infection, so at that time the epidemiologist and member of the Crisis Staff, Prof. Dr. Branislav Tiodorović pointed out that the measures in the ski resorts they were delayed.
– We are in a situation where going there and staying with a large number of people in the same space represents a great risk, to put it mildly, to transmit the crown. Skiing is not a problem like skiing, because the skiers on the piste are not next to each other. But, the problem is the breaks before and after skiing, where these people sit together in cafes, chat, drink tea, stay in the same rooms with a large number of people. I saw that someone gave a statement that they respect the measures because there are no guest singers and concerts of that type, as well as entertainment programs. What are these people talking about? They didn’t bring singers, but everything else is organized – Prof. pointed out at the time. Dr. Tiodorović.
That we have cases of entire families returning from winter infected with the corona virus, recently warned Prof. Dr. Radmilo Jankovic, director of the KC Nis Anesthesia and Intensive Care Clinic, deputy director general and coordinator of all kovid hospitals in the southern Serbia.
As he said, that indicates that in the closed spaces of the ski centers, it is necessary to verify how the measures are respected.
– Probably the thing is in restaurants, or accommodation, or during breakfast, dinner, you have to pay a little attention. There are fewer possibilities on the trail, the ski lifts and cable cars run relatively fast, there’s not enough of a delay to wait an hour, and most skiers have scarves on their faces, so the trail is less likely to get infected, said the prof. . Dr. Jankovic.
Will there be an audience at the next game?
In recent days, one of the controversial questions that has been raised is whether the fans will be able to attend the Europa League soccer match between the Serbian champions and the Italian club, which will be played on February 18 at the Rajko Mitic Stadium .
Incidentally, UEFA has approved the release of a maximum of 30 percent of the stadium’s capacity for sale, but the final decision must be made by crisis staff.
There are less than 10 days until the game, the desire of the fans to support the rojiblancos from the stands is omnipresent, but it still seems in vain.
Epidemiologist Kon reported that yesterday at the Crisis Staff session, there was no talk about the Red Star – Milan match, nor about the possible presence of the audience in that match.
– The match was not mentioned at all. The measures are still in force and that is the essence – stressed Dr. Kon.
However, yesterday in the morning program of TV Prva they talked about the next match between Red Star and Milan.
The epidemiologist Tiodorović assessed that the measures according to UEFA protocols, which include temperature measurements, the presence of 30 percent of the audience and the use of masks, are extraordinary, when they could be fully implemented.
While FC Red Star assures that all measures will be respected, Professor Tiodorović noted that “the problem is our fans”, and that it is “difficult to convince them to sit far away in the stands and put on a mask”.
– I support sports activities, but reason tells me: “Stop, wait”. It is important that we hold out now. We are aware of how important it is to provide a good psychological state to people, but fans are prohibited everywhere, said epidemiologist Tiodorović.
He said he received messages from medical workers that the measures should not be allowed to drop, nor should they be relaxed.
– I am very ashamed to talk about the game as a former athlete. On the other hand, as a doctor, I monitor the data on a daily basis. Everyone in the hospitals told me: “Don’t drop the measures.” Everything would have been fine if nothing had changed in the last seven days. We owe a slight increase to the return to schools, since wintering … – concluded prof. Dr. Tiodorović.
