Ivica Dačić, the Speaker of the Serbian Assembly and leader of the SPS, intended to return at least a part of the old authentic fence in front of the parliament building on Nikola Pašić Square, which was there until the mid-1950s , Kurir learned.

The idea of building the parliament building, which includes the aforementioned fence, fully restores its former appearance, has been around for a long time, but only recently was the procedure to determine where the parts of that fence ended.

In the spirit of old Belgrade

According to the report Kurir had an idea for, part of that fence was used to fence Villa Biljana in Ohrid, and part is in the Beli dvor complex.

The building of the Serbian Assembly used to have a fence in its entire length, in the front it was located in the place where the plateau is today, and it was made of wrought iron. The fence was removed in 1956.

– The idea is to give the assembly an authentic look, and that includes the front of the building. The fence would form a whole with the building itself. Because of the time it was made, but also the spirit of old Belgrade, it could be a tourist attraction, a reminder of an ancient time, says a source in Assembly Kurir, adding:

Tracked

– Parliament sent a letter to the authorities to determine where the fence was taken after it was removed from the plateau in front of the Assembly, and the response indicated that part ended in Macedonia and part in the palace complex.

In a conversation with Kurir, Ivica Dačić says that the fence has been searched before, but now they have managed to locate it.

– That is not my idea, but it was a wish when the Assembly was rebuilt to return to its appearance of 1936, when it began to function. This year, in October, it will be 85 years since the first session was held. However, they couldn’t find where the fence was. I asked the competent authorities for information about it, and the answer is that the fence was removed in 1956 and was used to fence the White Palace in Belgrade and Villa Biljana in Ohrid – says Dacic and adds: – So, now those who they are dedicated to the restoration to see if it is possible to return it in front of the Assembly. So it’s just an idea for now, the fence hasn’t been found yet, if we find it, I’ll call you to take a photo.
