VACCINES, SO ON HOLIDAYS: Our country agrees travel protocols, tourists without vaccine protection can expect stricter controls

Theocharis confirmed that everyone who will be vaccinated in Greece will receive a digital certificate, and most European countries plan to introduce similar certificates.

– There is much talk about the mutual recognition of certificates between the country of departure and the destination of tourists – said Teoharis.

The Greek minister’s announcement is sure to make Serbs happy, who bought or reserved more than 50 percent of the arrangements for summer vacations around this time last year. Now all eyes are on the unrealized coupons, which tourists received from agencies, instead of their trips.

Last year, the pandemic destroyed many people who were going on vacation, only a small number of them took advantage of the paid arrangements, so the sea was just a dream. Greece almost closed its borders to our citizens early last summer, and those measures continue today.

– We want to make travel protocols, with countries that interest us, such as Greece, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Turkey and Egypt, so that we do not have to repeat last summer, so that our borders are closed and we cannot travel anywhere. – said Aleksandar Seničić, director of the National Association of Tourism Agencies of Serbia. – If we finish that, then we will know the rules beforehand, as we now know about Turkey and Egypt that a PCR test is mandatory. There is a protocol with Cyprus, where they classify all countries in four different colors, and based on that, you know what you need to have to enter their territory. We are working on this now, our ministry has provided support and we have started talks with the Greek ministry and the embassy in Serbia.

As Senicic told us, they expect the situation to stabilize in April, so that at least the agencies “get rid of” the receipts issued. Even if they used half, it would be good for agencies and passengers alike, Senicic notes.

Travel agencies told us that there are almost no new reservations for the summer holidays and few people ask about the arrangements. Especially when they call, citizens ask what will happen to the replacement vouchers. If Greece does not open the borders for our citizens, that would be the definitive end for almost all travel agencies in Serbia.

Last year some of our citizens rested in Croatia because the borders were open or because a negative PCR test was required. Many replaced Greece with Turkey and then Egypt. Interest in Turkey did not wane much even when they introduced a mandatory test that the passenger tested negative on the PCR test.

EXOTIC DESTINATIONS

As the people who organize exotic trips say, at the moment you can spend seven days in the Maldives for a little more than 1,000 euros per person. This price includes air transport, accommodation and food. A holiday in Zanzibar, 11 days, without PCR test, which includes hotel, transport, transfers and taxes, costs about 1,500 euros per person. By way of comparison, the average price of wintering in Serbia, without a pass, costs around 700 euros per person, accommodation and half board.

KOVID PASSPORTS

ACCORDING TO Senicic, there is an initiative of the International Air Transport Association to make a request called covid-passport and a personalized document, with data from a negative PCR test, or something else. Two airlines have already submitted an application, which mimics this covid passport, for New York-London and London-Sydney.
