Our “kovid elite” – Editorial comment

For the “good time” until late at night on Twitter this weekend, the photos of the private celebration featured the presence of the host of N1 Minja Miletić and the host of Pinka Sanja Marinković, through which it was wrote “kovid elite”.

Our

If not for these words, maybe everything would have gone unnoticed.

This is host Pink’s futile explanation that the term kovid elite refers to those who passed the crown, so by that logic they can probably meet, although national regulations, narrow as they are, have yet to recognize it.

In this expression, citizens read what they themselves already know: there are privileged people, who are not only above the law, but are also willing to scrub the fact that the regulations do not apply to them.

This is the only way to understand the term “kovid elite” in Serbia, where a video was posted over the weekend showing the opening of the “Dorćoleta” club, which is owned by SNS official Andrej Kesić.

The Twitter community was furious, harsh words of “shame” fell, and in all that noise several basic things were overlooked, with which any discussion about the case of the “kovid elite” party and the opening of the club should begin and finish.

In Serbia, it is forbidden to gather more than five people indoors, and it is also prescribed by measures that must be respected in cafes and restaurants, whose work is limited to 20 hours.

It is said that there are bodies that control the implementation of the measures and sanction those who ignore the measures.

Did these “authorities” write misdemeanor charges not just in these cases but in hundreds of others that took place weeks ago?

Most importantly, did they write them following the same rules?

Instead of the misdemeanor, more was said about the responsibility Sanja Marinković and Minja Miletić have as public figures.

The two can offer their apologies, the private televisions in which they work can decide what attitude they will take towards the procedure of their employees and, in the end, the viewers themselves will respect or not what Miletic and Marinkovic said.

However, what can be said about the responsibility of the official Andrej Kesić, a man who received a salary from the budget, who is so exhausted that there is no room to allow stricter measures against the epidemic?

Although no epidemiological measure was violated during the opening of the club, as stated by Goran Vesić, which the recordings of the event do not unequivocally confirm, the truth is that a member of the ruling party opened the club in the middle of the pandemic and that he and his party or according to the regulations had to offer more.
