Prime Minister Ana Brnabić: “The beginning of the end of the epidemic in Serbia”
After the vaccination, the Prime Minister left the Torlak Institute building, and the first thing she said was that she was fine.
– Definitely today is a day of smiles, finally from March 6 we have a reason to smile. This is the day that marks the beginning of the end of the pandemic in Serbia. As Prime Minister, I felt the need to be the first to receive the vaccine, to show that I trust all the experts who verified the vaccine – said the Prime Minister.
He noted that the agreement was that President Vučić would receive a vaccine from another manufacturer and that Serbia would purchase all approved vaccines.
– The Republic of Serbia is the first country in Europe after Great Britain to receive the “Pfizer Biontek” vaccine. We will not stop until the immunization of the population in Serbia is completed. We will not stop until we defeat the corona virus – said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister asked citizens not to think that the epidemic is over, and that little by little we are taking off our masks during 2021 and that we do not see it as a victory, but as the beginning of the end of the coronavirus.
Ana Brnabić said that her vaccination is a good sign for all citizens, especially the fact that Dr. Predrag Kon and academic Predrag Peško also received the vaccine.
– We saw what the world would be like without vaccines in 2020. I don’t like that world. If we did not have vaccines for some other diseases, such as smallpox, we have had cases where children die from diseases that have been eradicated – Brnabić pointed out.
He announced that the vaccines from the Chinese manufacturer Sinofarm – Sinovak, as well as certain quantities of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, are expected to arrive soon, while “Astrazeneka” and then Modern’s vaccine should arrive at the end of the first or early second quarter. of the next year.
– As we promised, citizens will have at their disposal all vaccines that have permits in their countries and approvals from the relevant international agencies, and which, of course, will go through all our agencies and institutes – said Brnabić.
The Prime Minister said that Serbia, in addition to 4,870 Pfizer-Biontek vaccines, will receive another 16,000 doses from that manufacturer in January, and that together with other vaccines we will have a total of one million doses in January, and a total of about two million dose during the first trimester.
– We have this dynamic of Pfizer vaccine deliveries and as vaccine production varies, delivery varies not only to Serbia but also to all countries in the world. We were expecting 10,000 doses of Pfizer-Biontek in December. 4,870 doses arrived, but on the other hand, we expect an additional 16,000 doses to arrive in early January, Brnabić told reporters.
During January, we expect significantly larger quantities of the Chinese Sinovak vaccine, Brnabić added.
– But, as soon as possible, the Russian vaccines Sputnik Ve. So, only at the beginning of the second trimester, we expect additional amounts of AstraZenek. And I hope that in discussions with them, we can get the vaccine from the American manufacturer Moderna, he said.
Brnabic says that we will certainly have about two million doses of vaccines during the first quarter, and certainly one million doses in January.
Dr. Predrag Kon: We are starting a counteroffensive
Dr Kon noted that this is great news for the region and for Europe, and that we are launching a counteroffensive.
– We are starting a fight with a gun in hand, and that is a vaccine. It is a great effort by healthcare workers to save lives, and we are doing all that we can, said Dr. Kon, adding:
– We are doing everything we can to get the right message across to people and we did it today. The vaccine is registered with us for initial use in accordance with the law and is completely safe. Behind that is the Drug Agency. That was the most important thing to me personally and a confirmation of the complete safety of this vaccine.
He wished the citizens of Serbia all the best, and said that vaccines will continue to arrive and citizens will be vaccinated with an operational plan.
Minister Kisić Tepavčević: A great day for our country
