The use of a fake police badge in the robbery in Zvezdara, when unknown persons broke into the apartment of investor Sasa P. and stole 100,000 euros, annoyed the citizens of Serbia. It is especially terrifying when you consider that, according to data from the Interior Ministry, in the last month alone, the Serbian authorities confiscated 30 fake badges!
The fake policemen knew that Saša P. had obtained a bank loan that day and that he was carrying 100,000 euros. They first broke into the apartment, tied up the brother and sister, and then began brutal torture to find out where the money was. When they seized the loot of 100,000 dinars, they fled.
This news upset the citizens of Belgrade, but also the citizens of our entire country, not only because of the brutality and arrogance of the robbers, but also because of the fact that sooner or later they could become victims of this type of fraud.
As reported by the Ministry of the Interior for “Blic”, in the last month about 30 badges were seized, which are similar in appearance, leather binding and internal part to the appearance of the official identification card of authorized officials of the Ministry of Interior.
– It is difficult for citizens to distinguish the law from false identification and that is why they can be deceived and become victims of various criminal acts. Therefore, to protect the personal and property security of citizens, members of the Interior Ministry will continue to exercise control, supervision and confiscation of identification cards that remind the official police, according to the Interior Ministry.
New regulations
They add that this institution is in the process of regulatory reform that will include sanctioning all actions related to the unauthorized use of badges and police cards, as well as the use of badges or other badges and labels that contain elements of visual identity of badges and identifications. police. .
– The aforementioned amendments prescribe the prohibition of possession, that is, the wearing of an official badge or an official identification card by persons other than police officers, that is, officials of the Ministry of the Interior. In addition to the above, legal entities, associations and individuals are prohibited from requesting the production, production, marketing, possession or use of a badge or other brand or brand that contains elements of the visual identity of an official badge or official identification card . Of the previous prohibitions, high fines are prescribed, as well as the imposition of a precautionary measure of confiscation of articles.
– The adoption of these changes in regulations is expected as soon as possible. This creates the conditions to sanction any action that is contrary to these prohibitions, so any action of this type will be sanctioned, regardless of whether the badges or other symbols and marks may be misleading, they say.
1990s business
The misuse of police plates is not new in our country. As the criminologist Dobrivoje Radovanović explained for “Blic”, it has been known since the 1990s that criminals receive police badges. As he pointed out, almost all criminals referring to the underground flocked to them.
– I witnessed a situation in which one of them, together with a policeman, identified people in the “Spring” cafe. Every slightly more significant character in the underworld had an ID, and that existed as a rule. They took out those plates through State Security, the police … – said our interlocutor.
Now, Radovanovic believes, the situation is different and, as he says, if criminals can forge passports and ID cards, they can also have police ID.
– Giving criminals a police badge stopped or dropped after the great manhunt that took place in the late 1990s. Current criminals may have credentials from that time, they may obtain new IDs through connection and, in the end, they can forge them without problems, Radovanović said.
He added that apostates who receive badges are leaders of fan groups, members of the underground who work for the state, the police, but also members of criminal groups who have found refuge in Serbia.
Prison
By the way, the Penal Code of Serbia prescribes prison sentences for those who falsely present themselves as civil servants. According to the Law, whoever, with the intention of obtaining some benefit or harming another, falsely presents himself as an official or military officer or bears any official or military sign, will be punished with a fine or imprisonment of up to three years.
