Wearing masks isn’t pleasant for anyone, and doctors don’t enjoy it, either, but by wearing them you protect others from yourself, virologist Milanko Shekler, immunologist Emina Milosevic and anesthesiologist Rade Panic told citizens in “Print of the Week “.
Those invited to the program tried to answer the question of why the public does not believe in the masks and if it is true that we would not be in this situation, with so many infected and dead by coronavirus, if we took them and respected epidemiological measures.
The president of the Union of Doctors and Pharmacists, Dr. Rade Panic, said that he was wearing a mask, because the previous 24 hours he had been working in an intensive covid unit with “good will”, that one of his colleagues fell ill and that he existed the possibility of being infected.
He added that after leaving the kovid system, no one tested it, although it should be in isolation for at least two or three days, and that this is not the first time, reports Nova.rs.
“So the doctors are not being examined, their contacts are not being monitored, which does not mean that they will not take my temperature tonight,” Panic said.
“By wearing a mask, I protect others and myself,” Panic said, and when asked if we should disinfect cutlery, glasses and handles, he said we should only protect the face.
“The biggest help at this time is to control ourselves and not touch our faces with dirty hands, not take off our masks because some viruses remain,” explained Panic, adding that surgical masks, which citizens usually wear, do not last more than two hours , and when they speak, shorter.
He added that doctors are given a mask throughout the day and colleagues in primary care receive a mask for two days. Noting that the health system “broke down”, he said that after 10 months, this situation is inadmissible.
“Today we have a huge problem, because the authorities at Trampoline, the Crisis Staff and the Government allowed us to enter hospitals with an antibody test, which allowed the virus to enter hospitals, infect entire rooms and reach 300 patients in 10 days. up to 3,000 infected, without constant measures, “warned Panic.
I fear this will last until April, he warned, adding that “we all wear masks, if we were educated and accept the new reality, we would not have these problems.”
The president of the Union of Physicians and Pharmacists of Serbia says the organization warned for six years that Serbia could not respond to a major challenge, such as a pandemic, and that the Ministry of Health should have reacted to the first news about a potential crisis sanitary last December. He said that in the first announcements of the pandemic, the corresponding ministry should have reviewed the capacities of the health system and taken measures and acquisitions accordingly.
“At the beginning of the crisis, we bought (a lot of) respirators. That was crazy and completely wrong, we should have invested in prevention, and not in treatment (at the time),” Panic said.
Panic said he feared that the health crisis would last until April, as well as that the epidemic was slowing down the organization of society, that is, that the course of the infection would depend on the behavior of the majority.

“In vain you respect the regulations, when it leads in the opposite direction,” said Shekler, referring to people who do not respect the measures of wearing protective masks in situations where an infection can occur.
In the contact of a person infected with coronavirus, who does not wear a mask, and healthy people with a mask, there is a chance of about 20 percent chance that he is actually protected.
“If you wear a mask as a crown patient, and I don’t wear it as a healthy person, the chance of being protected is 80 percent. If we both wear masks, the protection is almost 99 percent,” Shekler explained.
However, he noted that coronavirus infection depends on a number of factors in addition to wearing protective gear.
According to immunologist Emina Milosevic, citizens “like children” must be constantly explained why it is important to wear a mask.
“People think that if the mask does not protect 100 percent, why would they use it, but with such thought we arrived at this situation and our colleagues in intensive care would now find it easier to do their job,” he warned.
