Today the construction of the flue gas desulfurization plant has begun, in which 210 million euros will be invested, in the Obrenovac “Nikola Tesla B” thermal power plant.

The laying of the first stone was attended by the Minister of Mines and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic, the Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic, the director of EPS Milorad Grcic and the director of the Japanese company Mitsubishi Power Shinichiro Mitsuyama and the ambassador of Japan in Serbia Tokahita Katsumata.

Mihajlovic said that the start of this important project is important for a healthier environment.

“All of this had to be resolved much earlier, but it is important that we get started and all the projects in EPS will be carried out much faster, both this and the desulfurization project in Kostolac, to complete the test work and obtain a permit,” he said.

He added that annual emissions of sulfur dioxide are 300,000 tonnes, that is, six times more than allowed by the laws of Serbia and the EU.

“Even if we put it on the part of the EU, our task is to preserve the health of citizens. In the next period, we will redefine the investment plans, because the fact that EPS has invested 319 million euros in environmental protection up to now it’s not encouraging. ” the environment also means the survival of EPS ”, he evaluated.

Irena Vujović recalled that the construction of the plant in TENT A started last year and that this project will contribute a lot to the protection of the environment.

“This project reduces sulfur dioxide emissions to a minimum. We are adjusting regulations and regulations with the EU on our way to European integration, and these plants contribute to faster action and harmonization with the EU. Protection is our imperative. of the environment and better air quality, all for the health of citizens. ” “Serbia,” he said.

Milorad Grčić said that at the beginning of the realization of the desulfurization project, the third of its kind in Serbia, the level of air pollution will be reduced from 80,000 tons to 4,500 tons per year.

“The value of the project is 210 million euros, of which 120 million euros will be carried out thanks to the work of Serbian companies, which is important for our GDP, to which EPS contributes three percent directly and a three percent indirectly. These projects guarantee the future of the TPP and energy stability. ” Grcic said.

Shinichiro Mitsuyama pointed out that with the enormous efforts of the Government of Serbia and EPS, this project can finally be realized.

“Our proven state-of-the-art desulfurization technology will also be used in TENT B and I am confident that we will contribute to the protection of the environment in Serbia. We will ensure the timely completion of the project and a modern plant that will be another symbol of Serbian friendship. Japan, “he said.
