On September 22, 2020, at the Horgos border crossing, customs officials, in cooperation with the police, prevented an attempted smuggling of 220 aquarium fish.
The violation was discovered when a “Ford Transit” passenger van with Pančevo plates arrived at the entrance of the country for control, carrying nine passengers from Bratislava to Belgrade.
When asked by customs officials if they had anything to report, the 42-year-old driver responded negatively, saying that neither he nor the passengers have anything but personal luggage.
However, when inspecting the trunk, underneath the suitcase and the passenger bags, the customs official found an insulated box containing several bags with a total of 220 aquarium fish.
After inspection, it was determined that the contraband aquarium fish Corydoras Venezuela Black, Corydoras Venezuela Juli and Coridoras Aneus Gold do not belong to protected species.
Until the end of the infringement procedure initiated against the driver, the seized aquarium fish will be cared for at the Palić Zoo.
