Dejan Mitic (28) from Nis was sentenced in the High Court of this city to 8 years in prison because he killed Stefan Kocic (20) from Niska Banja in his BMW car on July 8 last year in an alcoholic state and under the influence of cocaine.
He was also sentenced to five years for not driving after being released from prison. The tragedy occurred around 3.45 am at the entrance of this municipality in the direction of Nis.
An earlier investigation established that Mitic had 2.2 per thousand alcohol in him, that he was driving an unregistered car, and that he did not have a driver’s license. The defense demanded a maximum penalty of 12 and the prosecution 6 years in prison. The defense proposed three years in prison.
Stefan and his friends Marko and Aleksandar were walking down the sidewalk when they saw that Mladen Davidović from the village of Dolac was unable to change the tire at the “101 flag” just off the road. .
They decided to come help after he called them for help. It wasn’t long before they saw their BMW racing towards Niška Banja. There is a path a few meters wide and well lit. You could have missed them if you had just turned the steering wheel to the left, but you didn’t. He threw Stefan when he reached about thirty feet. There was no help for him, although Marko tried to help him.
After the accident, Davidović sat in Zastava and fled because, as he said at trial, he was “scared” and, as things stand, he will not be held responsible for his immoral act.
