The repeated municipal elections began this morning in Sabac at 27, out of a total of 100 polling stations, and 28,800 voters have the right to vote.

There are 12 lists on the ballot and re-election may affect the change in composition of councilors and the majority in the Sabac parliament, which has 69 councilors.

The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) had the largest number of councilors in local elections on June 21.

The Electoral Commission of the City previously annulled the elections in the 100 polling stations, and the Administrative Court of Novi Sad, following the appeal of the SNS, decided to repeat the elections in 27 places.

With the abolition of the state of emergency, the re-elections of councilors of the municipal assembly were announced in Sabac on September 5, and the president of the SNS EB Darko Glisic previously evaluated that Zelenovic abused the epidemiological situation to gain more time in the chair of mayor.

The current mayor and chairman of the Together for Serbia party, Nebojsa Zelenovic, has held this position since 2014.

A group of eight members of the European Parliament, including Tanja Fajon, called on Sabac citizens on Wednesday to come out and vote for “freedom and democracy to win.”

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić reacted to that yesterday, saying that citizens will surely vote for freedom and democracy, and that this means that they will vote against MEP Tanja Fajon.

SNS Vice President Milenko Jovanov previously stated that Fajon, Viola von Cramon and six other MEPs directly supported the election robbery prepared by Zelenović and Dušan Petrovović.

Zelenovic’s party rejected allegations that the mayor was organizing an electoral robbery, saying that Sabac would decide today whether the city would continue to lead the team led by Zelenovic or, as they say, the mafia would take over.
