On that day in 2004, Dragan Jakovljević and Dražen Milovanović were killed at the Karaš military installation at Topčider in Belgrade. They were both 21 years old.

What exactly happened that day has yet to be determined. The military investigation determined that it was a case of murder and suicide, while the independent state commission assessed that they were killed by a third person.

According to the first military investigation, Jakovljevic killed Milovanovic and then committed suicide.

Then, at the independent commission’s finding, it was determined that the guards were killed by a third person.

The claim about the third person was also supported by the FBI laboratory in Washington.

On December 8, 2016, the Government of Serbia decided to form a commission to consider the facts and circumstances related to the deaths of the guards.

Also, in early December 2016, a 3D forensic analysis of the events was presented to the media, showing that the guards were killed.

Insults and threats to those present

The lawyer for the families of the slain guards, Predrag Savić, says that the start of the commemoration was marked by an incident, during which a middle-aged man, from the black spot of Belgrade records, insulted the families of the assassinated guards, lawyers and journalists.

“I hope that one of the competent state bodies will react and identify the aggressors who insulted, threatened and cursed to the point of a physical incident, which I expected would happen in front of journalists,” Savic said, according to Belgrade media.
