There are various reasons and circumstances why many citizens of Serbia, who are paid from abroad, did not pay taxes for them.

The recent warning from the Tax Administration to regulate it themselves, before they get caught, has annoyed most of the probably 100,000 “freelancers” who work “remotely”, writes “Veernje novosti”.

the fact is, accountants will have more work to do these days. Foreign income must be calculated by the taxpayer himself, which is impossible in practice.

“The amount of taxes and contributions depends on the type of income, be it royalties or employment contract, whether you are employed or not,” explained Air Pap, vice president of the Board of the Association of Tax Advisors, to “Novosti”.

“There are a number of differences, from the rates to the allowable deductions. Based on my budget, when everything is taken into account, the liabilities range from 29.5 to 80 percent. In the case of rates, the deduction goes from 34 At 50 percent, it’s 20 percent.

When it comes to double taxation agreements, the taxpayer himself must know if our country has it with the state where the funds come from or not. Most taxes are paid at the place of residence of the earner. This means that most of them, since they are citizens of Serbia, have to pay obligations in our country. In the case of countries with which we do not have such an agreement, there is a danger of double taxation, ”said Pap.

Among those who did not know they had to pay taxes on negligible income from hobbies was Milan L. from Belgrade. He is an amateur photographer and has been selling them to various agencies for the past five years.

“I made about $ 350 in total,” says Milan. “Honestly, when I first withdrew money from PayPal, I asked the bank if it had any obligations. They asked me if taxes had been paid there, and then they did, they assured me that it could not be paid twice. I didn’t take care of it. Now, it seems that I still have to pay, and vice versa, “he added.

Milan emphasizes that this is not his biggest problem either, but the fact that he himself does not know how to calculate taxes, and would have to pay a hundred euros to the accountant. In fact, you would be left without any income, and maybe even duan!

The tax advisor is convinced that Milan will not be able to do it alone. The truth is that, without the help of experts, this tax formula cannot be established or enunciated. So it is not clear to them why people who make money abroad do not do better research.

“Some people earn small amounts and it would not be wrong to think of a tax-free monthly amount, so that those who receive 100 to 200 euros do not pay taxes,” says Pap.

“We don’t have that solution now. This is not the most optimal payment model. There are other models that are more tax-friendly,” he added.
