Spartan Thy Hurts Former PEC Employer, Ten Groninger Win at Venlo | NOW

[ad_1]

Sparta Rotterdam took a big step to preserve life on Saturday. Thanks to a late goal from Lennart Thy, PEC Zwolle was defeated 3-2. Earlier in the evening, FC Groningen beat VVV-Venlo 1-0 despite an early red card.

At Sparta-PEC, it was 1-0 in the middle of Michael Pinto’s first goal in the Eredivisie. In the second half, the roles were reversed. PEC tied the score through captain Bram van Polen and took a 1-2 lead on a Slobodan Tedic goal.

However, the last word was for You. The forward hurt his former club PEC by equalizing a penalty fifteen minutes early and also taking the winning goal in the final seconds.

For Sparta, the victory means the club is twelfth in the Eredivisie with 34 points. In theory, coach Henk Fraser’s team can still fall to the relegation places, but that seems highly unlikely.

PEC should be a little more concerned. The 2014 cup winner has five points less than Sparta, although the gap with the number sixteen VVV (seven points) is considerable.

Matusiwa expelled early from VVV-Groningen

VVV already had a numerical advantage against Groningen in the twentieth minute due to a red card for Azor Matusiwa. The midfielder received two yellow cards from referee Bas Nijhuis and, in particular, the foul for which he received his second impression was not very clever.

However, VVV was unable to take advantage. New coach Jos Luhukay’s team, who recently succeeded the expelled Hans de Koning and also lost in his second match, hardly created chances.

VVV was billed for this in the 87th minute. Mohamed El Hankouri beautifully shot the ball from about thirty meters into the far corner behind desperate goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum.

In injury time, the VVV seemed to accompany him, but the VAR rejected a goal from Yahcuroo Roemer. Giorgos Giakoumakis had touched the ball a few seconds earlier in an offside position.

VVV stayed in 16th place due to the loss and is practically in a play-off spot. FC Groningen is still number six, but they cannot miss a single ticket for the European football play-offs.
