Data from over 500 million Facebook users reportedly posted online NOW

The personal data of some 533 million Facebook users would have been put online on Saturday, the news agency writes. Bloomberg. The data includes phone numbers, full names, location information, email addresses, dates of birth, and other information.

A Facebook spokesperson claims in response to the news agency that the data was already stolen in 2019. The problem is said to have been resolved in August of that year.

According to Business Insider there is data on the streets of Facebook users from 106 countries. At least 32 million US users, 11 million British and 6 million Indians have been affected by the old leak. The outlet claims to have seen the data and claims to have verified the leaked personal data.

RTL tech journalist Daniël Verlaan claims data from 5.6 million Dutch Facebook users have been put online. Facebook was unavailable for comment Saturday night.

Founder Alon Gal of cybersecurity company Hudson Rock discovered that the stolen data had been posted online. According to Gal, a hacker tried to sell the data in January, but now it appears he put it online for nothing, so anyone can download it.

The cybercrime specialist warns that malicious parties can start with the data. Gal points out potential phishing and identity fraud attacks.
